On the topic of Baitul Mukarram, take a look at this current GoogleEarth photo below. It seems that the south courtyard of the mosque has been paved over, possibly to increase outside room for worshipers...I do not see the garden / reflecting pool that used to be there. Does anybody know if this is in fact the case?

Qassabtuly (aka Koshaituli) Mosque - a gem of Old Dhaka. Has the same cut china clay tilework (chini-tikri) found in the more famous Star Mosque - but here even more elaborate. Another wonderful photo essay by Ershad Ahmed (more photos as http://dhakadailyphoto.blogspot.com)

See the details? Amazing. I always thought Koshaituli was really Koshaituli.

I think perhaps the main reason that beautiful structures like the Kar Talab Khan and Koshaituli mosques are not better known is because their front facades are obscured by large modern annexes. For example the Star Mosque has no such visual impediment and therefore is easier to photograph and appreciate.

Very fanciful structure! Must be very new as well...have never seen a picture of this before. Looks rather expensive as well...I wonder who paid for it?

Edit - oops...I missed the sign in the first pic...established 2003...so that answers one question.
