Shalom Meir construction photo

Hevre: Tel Aviv and the Gush Dan are looking very good these days. Restored international style buildings, gleaming white in the sun alongside some very exciting modern skyscrapers. Big changes, obviously, since I lived in Ramat Gan back in the early to mid 70s. Does anyone have an interior shot of the Great Synagogue on Allenby Road? I have seen photos of the exterior, both before the disastrous renovation of some years ago, which turned a good looking synagogue into an ugly edifice. But I have seen only one photo of the interior and that must date from the 40s or 50s. I'd love to see a current picture of the main sanctuary. If anyone lives in Ramat Gan, could you tell me if the plant nursery on Rehov ha'eshel just in from pinat Rehov ha'roeh still exists? I very much doubt it, but it was a green oasis and I loved to walk through it. Finally, on my first trip to Israel, I took a very interesting close up picture of the Shalom Meir tower under construction [summer of 1964]. Since this forum does not accept attachments directly from one's computer I have no way of posting it. I scanned it and would love to sent it via e-mail to someone to post in this 'then and now' thread. Let me know if I can sent it to anyone. B'shalom rav, Ginkgo

Despite its ugliness, the Shalom Meir Tower did start making Israel look up to the skies by going vertical.

The reason for the ugly lowrises is b/c they needed fast construction for people to live there.

Well, that's true (some of the other low-rises in the north are even uglier, like the one I used to live in), but that building looks as if it's under renovation (a lot of new concrete). If they don't cover the walls with anything, however, it's quite pathetic.

I think the reason why concrete was used was b/c it was the cheapest.
