*********** Jordanian TV series wins International Emmy By Agence France Presse (AFP) Thursday, November 27, 2008 AMMAN: On Tuesday, Jordanian television producers celebrated the kingdom's first-ever International Emmy Award for a 2007 series on a love story during Israel's 2002 incursion into a West Bank city. "Al-Igtiyah" (The Invasion) won Emmy's new telenovela category, with producer Talal Awamleh accepting the award in New York on Monday night. "It's a very well-done and successful work," Yasser Qbeilat of Jordan's Arab Telemedia Productions, which is owned by Awamleh, told AFP. "As a private production company, it was a big challenge to produce such a work." The winners of what are known as the Oscars of the television industry were selected from among 40 nominees of 16 countries competing for 10 International Emmy categories, excluding US productions. The series on the Israeli incursion into the Palestinian city of Jenin was shot on location in Syria, with Jordanian, Syrian and Palestinian actors, Qbeilat said. Lebanon's LBC satellite TV was the only station to broadcast it in 2007 during Ramadan. "All other networks decided to ignore the series because of sensitivities related to Israel," said a production industry source, who estimated the cost of the series at more than $3 million. - AFP |

Jordan Gov expands Queen Alia Intl Airport Posted on: Monday, January 23, 2006 ; 13:54 IST Amman: The Ministry of Transport on Saturday launched a project to expand Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) to meet the increasing movement of air traffic. In a ceremony to launch the scheme yesterday, Minister of Transport Saud Nseirat said the a JD300 million project is in line with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision to upgrade the civil aviation and air transportation sector and improve the infrastructure of the Kingdom's airports. The minister said expansion work would last for three years, noting that the new building will start operating in 2010. Under the project, new buildings will be constructed on 90,000 dunums of land, and the two passenger terminals will undergo full maintenance in order to keep the airport at par with international standards, Nseirat said. The minister said the project's steering and technical committees will work in cooperation with a team of consultants, to decide on a suitable design for the expanded facility. Nseirat said a tender would be floated at the international level to expand the passenger terminals on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) system. He pointed out that the project's financial, legal and technical consultations would be finalised in October. Members of the project's steering and technical committees attended the launch at the Queen Noor Technical College. -- Zya |

AIG (Airport International Group) kicks off development of new QAIA
- Posted on: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 ; 00:00 IST Visitors to Queen Alia International Airport have already seen many improvements to the current terminal and will see significant changes over the next few days as construction starts making real inroads into the redevelopment of the new QAIA. To accommodate the planned construction works, Airport International Group (AIG) has announced major changes to the traffic flow, car park and transport infrastructure throughout the Airport. 'Recent visitors to the Airport will have seen the emergence of construction cranes and the hoarding off of car park areas. In the long term this is good news for our travelers as they will start to see delivery on the commitments that AIG has made to fulfill the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II to see a state of the art gateway developed for Jordan and the region,' Scheduled to be fully operational in 2011, the new QAIA will comfortably greet over 9 million passengers per year, with the capacity of further expansion to 12 million passengers. Whilst construction and development plans of the new QAIA are underway, AIG has undertaken an intensive phase of capital improvement and upgrading of passenger services for the existing terminals with extensive rehabilitation and deep cleaning works starting in the check-in areas, customs halls, restrooms and many external fascias; all aimed at delivering an enhanced level of travel experience. Overall the US$700 million worth rehabilitation and expansion project of QAIA is being managed by AIG (Airport International Group), a Jordanian company with private shareholding by Abu Dhabi Investment Company (UAE) , Noor Financial Investment Company (Kuwait), Edgo Group (Jordan), Joannou & Paraskevaides (Overseas) Limited (Cyprus), J&P-Avax (Greece) and Aéroports de Paris Management (France). |
