Roundabout and Gostivar-Skopje motorway under concession

Quote:
13.11.2009 15:28:00 | Powered by PressCut
Skopje roundabout, whose construction cost several hundred million euros and the existing motorway Gostivar-Tetovo-Skopje will be given in concession for 35 years. In an attempt to find a concession-holder for the construction of 280 km of new roads, Macedonian authorities are now offering concessions for already built sections of roads.

Apart from the concession on motorway sections, the Macedonian Government is also offering other benefits: government subsidies of around EUR 200 million, concession-holders get to collect and keep the toll, which is expected to bring EUR 200 million in 35 years, and they will also have the right to introduce toll for the Skopje roundabout. On the other hand, investors have eight years to build the roads worth EUR 1 billion.

If not the WORST decision ever! I'm starting to wonder if we really are a country or just kids playing one.

This is a roundabout.

What you mean is ring(road)/beltway/orbital.

I like it a lot, the asphalt has the same color as the Struma motorway asphalt, that´s probably, because the Struma motorway is built by Macedonians aswell.

transit through Macedonia

good day collegues,

could you please let me know the road classes on route from Serbian toward Greek border (E75). is it dual carriage way, or like in our part of Europe road through hell (trucks, villages).

of course I can see there is a highway called M-1 (via michelin). what I cant see is whether it is a regular motorway, does it have modern motorway functionality (proper road crossings), does it have any gaps (not finished parts) ?

As far as I know, the northern part of it is a proper motorway, but the southern part is a high-speed road, but not a motorway, although it is signed as such on many mapping services. I believe the transition is not far south of Negotino.

Also note that both carriageways are as far as 5 km apart between Katlanovo and Veles.

transition from 4 lanes to 2 lanes is around Demir Kapija, but again near Smokvica 2 lanes again turn into 4 lanes and you have motorway till MK/GR border. so you have some 30 km non-motorway through Macedonia.
also, i am not sure for section SRB/MK border till Kumanovo, there also used to be 2 way expressway, i don't know if they have upgraded it.

those 2 lane sections are ok roads, that is all part of former road 1 in Yugoslavioa which lead from northern Slovenia (Kranjska Gora, near tripoint SLO/I/A) to southern Macedonia (Gevgelija) and it had all interesections in 2 levels, curves with large radius and wide lanes.
i don't know about maintenance in MK part.

Hello. My question is : which local petrol station brands do you recommend to a foreign tourist travelling on E-75 / M1? Except from paneuropean brands like OMV Shell or BP, I would like to know which national fuel company is trustworthy.
And is the distance between gas stations on the highway standard – ca. 50 kms?
