France’s Egis International has placed the best bid in a tender for the supervision of the construction of a road section in Macedonia, the European Union’s procurement journal reported.

The contract worth 8.977 million euro ($11.1 million) refers to supervision of the remaining link along corridor X to the level of motorway section Demir Kapija–Smokvica, the Tenders Electronic Daily said during the weekend.

Greece's Aktor won a 210.2 million euro ($264.3 million) contract for the construction of a motorway section in Macedonia, a notice in the European Union’s procurement journal indicated on Wednesday.

Aktor should build the Demir Kapija-Smokvica section, which is part of pan-European Corridor X, in 72 months, the notice in the Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) indicated...

Meanwhile, reconstruction work on an existing section will wrap up soon:

Macedonia said it expects to complete by the end of October or early November a 7.5 million euro ($9.4 million) upgrade of the Skopje-Veles road section, part of pan-European transport Corridor X.

The reconstruction of all road sections in Macedonia that are part of Corridor X is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, the government said in a statement on Monday, quoting transport minister Mile Janakieski.

But a € 7.5 million "upgrade" of M1? You can't upgrade a whole lot for € 7.5 million, I assume it's some repaving and maybe adding a shoulder here and there.

Macedonia launched the construction of the 257 million euro ($326.54 million) Demir Kapija-Smokvica motorway section, which is part of pan-European Corridor X, the country's transport ministry said.

The construction of the 28-kilometre motorway section in southern Macedonia should be completed in 2016, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Since the end of September Macedonian pay-tolls don't accept payment in Euros. Only Macedonian denars. So be prepare to have some macedonian denars.

IFC to advise Macedonian government on road project along Corridor VIII

I've just driven through Macedonia back and forth on the E75. They accept cards, but my Visa Electron which was good in Serbia was not working there. Fortunately I had a classic Visa card with me, and that was working fine. I didn't try whether they accept Euro.

Because the area is very rough for building, they need to make a few tunnels and bridges since the track of the highway will be completely new.

Unless an extra fee is charged for paying with a "full" credit card (like with some airliners' online booking), it is always more economical to pay by card than using some foreign currency ...

I found an example that proves otherwise:
When you enter Croatia from Slovenia on the A7, there is a small stretch for which you have to pay 8 kuna or 1 euro. I paid by credit card, because I didn't see the euro payment, but 8 kunas were more then 1 euro.
