Skopje invests EUR 1 billion in road network
Friday, 01/10/2014|11:14 | Source: Tanjug

Quote:

Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski says that more than EUR 1 billion will be invested in the construction and reconstruction of roads in that country.

We're going to invest over 1 billion euros in the construction and reconstruction of local and regional roads in Macedonia as well as in the construction of three highway stretches, PM Gruevski announced.

According to the web portal 24vesto.mk, Gruevski noted that new roads would improve the safety of passengers and make the transport of goods easier by connecting Skopje with eastern and western parts of the country, which he said was good because it would promote Macedonia as a transit country between Europe and Asia.

He also stressed that about EUR 87 million would be spent on the reconstruction, expansion and modernization of two airports in Macedonia.

Did you read your information before posting them? I think this is old, compared to the last sentence. Those two airports have already been reconstructed, expanded and modernized.

The Macedonian media announced that the highway Skopje - Blace (Kosovo border) will be built

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has signed an agreement with the international financial institution IFC, which should prepare the documentation for a tender for concession of the highway Skopje-Blace (Kosovo border). According the information, the contract is signed yesterday.

The tender for selection of a concessionaire is expected to be released after the presidential election in Macedonia. To the border crossing Blace should be build 13 km highway and the concession of the highway is likely to be offered for 35 years.

"The construction of this section of highway will connect Skopje to the border with the Republic of Kosovo. The route starts from the Skopje bypass and moves towards the border with Kosovo at Blace. The road has a total length of 13 kilometers and is part of the main route from Skopje to Pristina. The total width of the road is projected to be 27.4 m and there are going to be 2x2 lanes with width of 3.75 m and one stop lane with width of 2.5 m. The total value of the project is 69 million euros. The construction period of the project is referred to the period from 2013 to 2018.

On the other hand, Kosovo recently chose the company that will build the section from Pristina with a length of 55 kilometers. The construction works will be provided by American-Turkish consortium "Bechtel - Enka". The section should be completed by 42 months of signing the contract.

This highway will connect Skopje's north entrance and interchange with Skopje's north bypass.

Does this road also feature 2x2 lanes (expressway standard)? When will the contract probably been signed?

We should expect to see it complete by 2016-2017.

The road in Kosovo will have motorway standard. You can compare it to the already built R7 in Kosovo, it's also the same company building it.

Beginning of construction is expected to start in spring, propably March or April.

That is not the only reason... Kosovo's market is very important for the Macedonian export companies, so the highway should increase the economic trade between these two countries.

You never build a motorway just so a person can cross the border and go sightseeing. It is not logical.

The reason Macedonia want to build the short motorway of 13 km is because they will win a lot of money by it. Not because of expert to Kosova but also because of more people using the Skopje Airport. Having a motorway connecting it to Prishtina all the way, makes it easier for people to travel.

And since retarded goverment in Kosova did not build the current R7 all the way to Merdare even though Serbia does not want to build their part yet. There may also be some traffic led through Macedonia via the new motorway connecting Prishtina and Skopje.

It is time you start thinking money and not nationality because everyone else has...

I don't think this (national pride) applies with Macedonia as it did when Kosovo began building a motorway towards Albania. Kosovo is building the motorway to Kacanik (Mac border) because it enables Prishtina to connect with Corridor X and easy access the Thessaloniki port in Greece.

Here you go... Keep in mind that the yellow line represents the construction work on this highway section. The red line was just a proposal, but it was rejected.

On this section there are going to be several tunnels, as far as I know.

cheers Skopje/Скопје !

tnx for the map,
I always thought that the motor-way will be built beside the existing e-75 road,
good to know I was wrong, I don't like that almost 90'degree turn to the bridge between smokvica and marvinci
