‘Chickaballapur slated to become part of Greater Bangalore’

Chickaballapur’s geographical position is an advantage for growth

CHICKABALLAPUR: Minister for Minorities Welfare, Wakf and Haj Mumtaz Ali Khan on Tuesday said that there was every possibility of Chickaballapur, which is around 25 km from Bengaluru International Airport (BIA), becoming a part of Greater Bangalore in the near future.

After unfurling the national flag at the 61st Republic Day parade at Sir M. Visvesvaraya District Stadium here on Tuesday, Mr. Khan said that large-scale industrial development was scheduled to take place in the area between the airport and Chickaballapur.

In view of Chickaballapur’s geographical proximity to the BIA, there was ample scope for setting up major and medium industries here.

Another advantage was that the National Highway 7, connecting Bangalore and Hyderabad, passes through Chickaballapur, Gudibande and Bagepalli taluks of the district, he said.
Works

The State Government had taken up the development of Chickaballapur town at a cost of Rs. 30 crore under the Chief Minister’s Small and Medium Towns Development Programme, and Rs. 15 crore had already been released, he said.

In the first week of February, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would launch the Rs. 22-crore underground drainage work and also lay the foundation stone for the district office complex to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 20 crore, the Minister said.

Action plan

The Government would soon approve the action plan prepared by the district administration for the development of Nandi Hills as a tourist destination. As much as Rs. 1 crore had been earmarked for the development of Muddenahalli, the birthplace of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Mr. Khan said.

Initially the centre would concentrate on solar thermal energy research. He suggested that the centre focus on innovative technologies such as developing efficient solar thermal systems; using convergence of different high-end technologies for developing thinking spacecraft among other things; developing bio-inspired aerospace system with nanotechnology.
