BC Place set to unveil new state-of-the-art video scoreboards
Old ones were 'living on borrowed time'

The sale of binoculars will take a heavy downturn this year with word that two new scoreboards have been installed at B.C. Place Stadium for use during Lions' games in the upcoming CFL season.

Assisted vision was the only means to keep track of game details on the two miniscule boards located high on the west side of the dome. That is, when they were operational at all. They will be replaced by 80-foot ribbon-style boards, similar to those which encircle GM Place, on the southwest and northeast concourse facings.

Graham Ramsay, director of business development for the facility, said the installation of the new screens are not connected with last year's roof deflation nor the $3.8 million allocated by the 2010 Winter Games organizing committee for improvements.

"They were 24 years old so they were living on borrowed time," Ramsay said of the old scoreboards. "[The new boards] are up. They've been tested and they're fantastic."

Ramsay also said a new system has been devised to streamline concession beer sales, addressing another longtime fan complaint.
