There is only one real winner here. The Pantheon. As said before, 'the mother of all domes''. Even the great Taj Mahal looks silly compared to it, in my opinion. I mean,..

So no vote here.

Oh cummon guys. The picture at the beginning of this thread is not even of the Hagia Sophia. It's of the Blue Mosque which is a totally different building. Today's Hagia Sophia is a patched-up ugly mess of a building:

I frankly doubt the sincerity of people who vote the Hagia Sophia more beautiful than the Taj Mahal:

Taj by a mile. Hagia Sofia today is a mess, (Blue Mosque is a beauty though) - Pantheon I just find plain ugly - and St. Peters is nice, but nothing too special.

What about the Skydome...?

JK, but I'd have to say St. Peter's, on the grounds of sheer architecture. In terms of the surrounding scenery, the Taj Mahal is much nicer, but that's not what this poll is about.

None of these even come close to Hitler's Volkshalle.

I disagree. The very finest Hindu and Jain temples such as Ranakpur and Khajuraho are in the same league but I personally don't find the southern temple complexes such as those at Madurai very appealing at all. The painted ones are horrible - garish colours and grotesque sculpture. None of the other Mughal structures you have listed, such as Delhi's Jama Masjid, are even remotely in the same class as the Taj Mahal. There are some magnificent Rajput fortified citadels in Rajasthan and the some grand colonial edificies too (Bombay's Victoria Termins is spectacular and Calcutta's Victoria Memorial, with faint echoes of the Taj, is another beauty) but none of these reach the same level as the Taj Mahal. I have always loved the Golden Temple at Amritsar but, once again, it doesn't have the perfection of grace and form achieved by the Taj Mahal.

I disagree with you, but I agree that the Taj is simply stunning. However I find Meenakshi, Tanjore and other South Indian temples very beautiful especially due to the intricate sculptures and intense colours - and I love the Golden Temple as well. I would say that Meenakshi Temple or the Golden Temple would be my favourite Indian structure.

But when it comes to splendour in the domed category, not even the Golden Temple can match the Taj.
