7.5/10
Like the towers. The offset height doesnt bother me, but doesnt impress me. I like the top with those windows, but the facade is too stark, even for me. Interesting lower levels tho, and atrium. A very nice building. Will help Dubai look great as a lot more gets built in the next couple years |

Maybe Trances can help me out here
Are these towers, esp the office (taller one) like Kingdom Centre in Saudi Arabia in that the top 1/3 of the buildings are ornamental I see 355 meters, yet 54 storeys to me says half the building is being taken up without floor space, either that or you are some tall people in UAE ;-) I like the designs, but I hate buildings that are ornamental...people complain about Freedom Tower as cheating, but I hate these Hidden Cheats even more, like Kingdom Centre, Domiko (or whatever it is called) Tower in Tokyo etc... I have never been a huge fan of these twins, I will be very happy when Burj Dubai is built so taht these are no longer Dubai's tallest On a different note, I had no idea only 650,000 people live in the city of Dubai, are all these buildings office space?

The following is a production photo from the new sci-fi movie "CODE 46" with Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton, opening in North America on Aug 6th
Part of the movie was filmed in Dubai. Emirates towers, to respond to a question, are office building the 355 m and the 305 m tower is a 5 star hotel and they are united by a shopping arcade. I love Vu's Bar, on the 51st (top) floor of the hotel. The view is great, the bar itself is GREAT. |

Well the Floor are very High I know that and yes much of the top after where the bands and cuverd glass end and the Angle starts. So yes there is cheating in you want to call it that !

Dali
I was up at VU's last night... I love the ET's and everything inside. So elegant, subtle, yet beastly and innovative.
I tried to read into Hazel Wong's source for ideas in creating this, but my reasearch was unconclusive. Nevertheless, I still believe that the towers carry an idea which was first introduced by Dali on one of his works. It is called Archaeological Reminiscence of Millet's Angelus from 1935. It is the two figures facing each other but not directly, protruding noticeably above and beyond everything else around. I think the pics speak for themselves... Have a look a the link below and tell me what you think!?? http://www.virtualdali.com/35Archaeo...niscences.html And the reason why it is so striking to me is because I have an ultraviolet interpretation of this painting in my apt!!! and it is spectacular and huuuuuge!!!!! I will try posting a picture of it when I get a chance!!!! Cheers, Roberto |

this is for the guy describing the location as crap!
have more more impressive pics on my german computer! these i've taken from my dubai residence last week! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() another one: ![]() driving down the highway through this skyline is like heaven on earth and it will even get much more impressive when the financial center, the burj dubai complex and the other 15 towers (under construction right now) on this road will be completed. just for your information, this is a pic of the highway in 1992. nothing back then, today about 100 towers and still growing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! today this highway runs through a canyon of towers on the left and right side.

These two buildings seem to argue- indeed to bite!- at each other rather than to harmonize. The shot in the fog is great: fantastic!, but, looking at the night-shots of Dubai, there's a building to the right which captures my eye, rather than these towers: I guess I prefer symmetry.
Dubai's Twin Towers: very interesting architecture, moreso because they AREN'T the same height, but I'm glad they're not in my town. They wouldn't fit here. Very up-front Twenty-First Century. Very aggressive buildings. Perhaps it suits the landscape. 7.5/10 hmmm ... I have a pretty slow line here, and the pictures are still coming in ... I can see I am going to ruffle some feathers. Very angular buildings. Last edited by Yardmaster; August 23rd, 2004 at 10:21 PM. |
