Why not to unify all threads about police cars?
Ertzaintza cars at the first thread about police cars I have found.

What's better than pics emergency vehicles? Videos of them in action, these are three videos of emergency vehicles in action across the US: a Riverside, CA fire rescue unit, a West Lake, PA fire engine and a Boise, ID police cruiser

Popular Police vehicles in the midwestern U.S.
Ford Crown Victoria (production ends 2010)
North America's most popular police vehicle. Big on the inside, big on the outside, big v8 engine, rwd, body-on-frame, and tough as nails. ![]() Ford Explorer These suvs were gaining momentum, but I think that's died with the rising cost of gas, and the fact that Ford will be making the Explorer unibody with the next generation. ![]() Dodge Intrepid (no longer in production) These were popular with many departments. They were also very quick cars with their 3.5Litre V6. The Police version was plagued with brake problems though. While it's no longer in production, there are still police departments here in Wisconsin using them. ![]() Chevrolet Impala, First generation (no longer in production) Every department has a bunch of them. I've actually driven a retired example of one. I'm not really sure why they caught on, there's nothing special about them. ![]() Chevrolet Impala, Second Generation Many departments have these. They haven't been as popular as the first gen, due to the first generation's reliability problems as well as new competition from Chrysler Corp. ![]() Dodge Charger IMO, the coolest looking cop cars on the planet. Mean, and available with a powerful (340hp) V8. These are spreading like wildfire. ![]() Dodge Magnum (Production ending soon) The station wagon version of the Charger. ![]() Chevrolet Caprice (No longer in production) Old cars. Supposedly the best police vehicles ever made. Basically it's like the Ford Crown Victoria. Few police departments still use them. There's also a wagon variant, which I know Milwaukee uses. ![]() There are many more. |

I just love Dodge Charger patrols, they just look so imponent. Here in Mexico they are gaining popularity very quickly and many police corps accross the country already use them like Monterrey police, Jalisco state police, Yucatan state police, and the Federal Preventive police that bought the small ammount of 860 of these beauties

Popular North American Emergency Vehicles
If you insist... Ford Five-Hundred (No Longer In Production) Meant as a replacement for the aging Crown Victoria, the Five-Hundred never really caught on with police forces. Front wheel drive, and a 3.0litre V6 that was out of it's league (meaning underpowered for the size of the car) probably didn't help. Nevertheless, a few police forces bought them. ![]() As an aside: The Five-Hundred was refreshed for the 2008 Model year. In addition to a much more powerful (265hp vs ~200hp) 3.5litre v6, it was renamed Taurus. This vehicle has also been finding it's way into police forces, especially those that get snow, due to it's available AWD. AFAIK, Ford does not officially offer a police version of the Taurus (expect to see a police version of the next Taurus, due 2010-2011, as the Crown Victoria dies). I do not have a photo of the current generation Taurus in police form. Chevrolet Tahoe GMT800 (No longer in production) These started getting really popular with police departments around the U.S., as few other vehicles offered rwd (optional 4wd), body-on-frame construction, a big V8, and lot's of storage space. ![]() Chevrolet Tahoe GMT900 The replacement for the GMT800, this Tahoe offers better fuel-economy (and better looks imo). This truck has been spreading through departments very quickly, despite rising fuel costs. ![]() Ford Mustang The iconic American muscle car. The police versions (not officially offered from Ford) are mostly show cars. ![]() Chevrolet Camaro (No longer in production) "The fastest police car ever made." Believe it or not, Chevrolet actually offered a police package Camaro, and it sold. Pretty well too. They haven't been produced for quite a while. ![]() Chevrolet Corvette and Corvette Z06 Show cars. Don't expect to see one in the freeway median watching traffic. ![]() Police and Fire vehicles Chevrolet Astro/GMC Safari (No longer in production) Originally designed as small cargo vans, these workhorses were popular with Fire and police departments (as well as taxi services, plumbers, carpenters, cable companies, families, etc). They were RWD or AWD, and the only engine anybody ever bought was the 4.3Litre V6 (early models made 150hp, later "Vortec" models made 190-200hp depending on year, all models made an obscene amount of torque). I've actually owned one of these. ![]() P.S. They are, in fact, unibody. Don't let anyone tell you they are body-on-frame. Ford Excursion (no longer in production) Big. Not just big, massive. If you haven't seen one in person you won't be able to imagine just how rediculously huge these things are. They were relatively popular with fire and police departments. ![]() Beyond that you start getting into more show cars, unless I'm forgetting some popular police vehicle. Lamborghini Gallardo: the "Highway Patrol" has 3 of them. ![]() Alfa Romeo 159 with the new colour scheme... this is the classic "Pantera", as we call the police cars... ![]() Smart this is for service in historical center and public park...![]() Carabinieri is our MP... they also share duties with police, a tradition from the old times. Alfa Romeo 159 again: ![]() These were the new ones... in Italy you can still see a lot of them with old FIAT ![]()
