The Korridorvignette will be abolished in 2013 when the Pfändertunnel has full capacity. So you have to pay € 7,90 for the privilege of 22 kilometers of Autobahn to get from Switzerland to Germany.

There is still hope (discussions are going on) that the Korridorvignette is there to stay - I certainly hope so, 2 EUR for the stretch is OK, 8 EUR nobody will pay - so I assume the losses for ASFINAG will be limited.

A nice documentary about the construction of the 2nd tube of the Pfänder tunnel can be found here, available until Saturday, June 30th.

From said documentary I took a nice screenshot of the originally planned route for the A14 motorway along the shore of Lake Constance and cut-and-cover through Bregenz. Having grown up about 20 m from the planned tunnel portal, I have to say I'm quite happy that idea was canned...

I think you're underestimating how many people are willing to pay 8 euro. Many people pay 50 euro for the insurance needed to drive through Kosovo.

I think it depends how much in a hurry or convenient you are.
I drove through Bregenz, and didn't pay any toll, when I came from CH/FL and it was OK, also relaxed at Lake Constance for 15 minutes .

I drove the route from Sankt Margrethen to A96 in Germany once via Bregenz. I think it took me over 40 minutes. Although € 8 is more than the motorway is worth, it's a huge time-saver.

On Thursday I'll be driving from Wien to Villach, starting aroud 1 - 2 p.m. Will the reconstruction of A23 and A2 cause longer delays?

You will get annoyed by the 130-100-130-100-130-100 etc. changing speed limit at every tunnel between Graz and Villach...

It's not the first and not the last time I'll be driving there, so no problem. Besides, speed limits don't annoy me.

There are still roadworks, which will be finished in August. Note there is a mobile section control and Austria is known to pursue fines given to foreigners. It's one of the few countries actively sending fines to foreign countries.

But it is then up to the authorities of the country where the fine is sent to, whether they give out the details of the registration of the offending vehicle to the Austrian authorities. Austria is very angry with France who are still refusing to give out details. The Dutch and Germans cooperate with the Austrians.

I know about that, but I've never given a reason to fine me when travelling abroad

Also watch out for Police speed traps. I encountered one on A2 (in this video at 11:47) where the speed limit was 100 km/h, but they didn't stop me since I was doing a legal 115 100 km/h

1-2Pm is a good time. Because afterwards the daily traffic jam is starting on a23/a2 and THAT's annoying:

But is it a regular rush hour jam or is it mainly due to roadworks? Sorry, but I have no idea how intense they are, ASFiNAG site doesn't tell.

Nobody will stop you with +15 on a motorway (+10 in real?).
The bavarian police starts flashing with real +21 or [email protected] on my Speedio.

On thursday the traffic is worse than on other days in Vienna. Don't ask me why, but they always tell it on radio. Yes, there is always heavy traffic at a23, they also call it "the biggest parking lot of austria". Currently there are construction works there and combined with the amount of traffic and at least one accident at rush hour, it's always busy there. But as i said, 1-2pm is still a good time to go and there shouldn't be many problems
