Maybe quoting whole photo-report to make very short personal opinion is not wise to do in terms of overview.

Otherwise, Austrian part looks quite newer than Slovakian (of course, that's because, it actually is).
To David: what sort of pavement has A6? It looks as different colored concrete. And Italian style SOS niches should be built on every motorway in Europe. You appreciate it, when you need it.

But the asphalt looks darker and seems not to get other color because of rain, in Bulgaria for example the motorway and nationalroad aspahlt doesn´t get another color because of rain but the aspahlt of the entranses to them does, also most townroad asphalt.

Nice pictures davidkunz/VIE. A6 looks like it's made of concrete. Does it whistle? After driving in Italy earlier this year the European style of signs makes much more sense to me.

there are 2 border crossings between A and SK. both are near Bratislava, one is little bit souther than the other. if i've understood well, austrian A6 comes to this souther border crossing, is that right? earlier i've allways thought that A6 comes to this north border crossing

Yes, the A6 connects to the D4 south of Bratislava.

There are four road bordercrossings between Slovakia and Austria and two in Bratislava. And yes, the A6 comes to the Southern motorway bordercrossing Jarovce-Kitsee. The Northern (Petržalk-Berg) was almost exclusively used before the A6 was built.

Gee, let me guess why you like the Slovakian motorway better...hmm....could it have something to do with the metal crash barriers versus the concrete barriers in Austria?

Austrian A6 has concrete pavement. Slovak motorways D4, D2 and D1, which you can see on those pictures have asphalt pavement which is even brand new all around Bratislava.

Thank you davidkunz/VIE, nice photos. I wonder what is this structure supposed to be? I guess it has something with close airport, but I don't know exactly what.
It's an emergency structure to keep planes that shoot over the runway (16) from falling onto the motorway.

If you look two pages back, you'll find, that opening ceremony took place this November.

Overall, I think that A6 because of some features looks like some sort new generation of Austrian motorways (SOS niches, coloured anti-slip concrete, safer metal crashbarriers).

It was officially inaugurated on Nov 19 of this year.

Is there anything about the motorway from A2(Oberwart?) to Szombathely? Construction on parts of M86(M1(Hegyeshalom)-Szombathely) supposedly has started(and will start next year) here and there, and probably will be built in the following years.

I don't thonk there will be a motorway soon... Hungarian main road 89 (Szombathely-Bucsu/Schahendorf) was newly built around 2005, bypassing the villages there (the old 89 was going through Torony and Sé). In Austria, Bundesstrasse 63 between Oberwart (Felsőőr, there is a bilingual town limit sign ) and the border is already bypassing most of the villages, and the last section between Grosspetersdorf and the border was U/C this summer (according to google maps, it is ready). The most of B50 between Oberwart and A2, and B63 Oberwart and Grosspetersdorf bypasses are 2x1 lane expressways (autóút).

By 2013,the motorway(or expressway) from Győr to Szombathely will be built. That why I asked if there are plans for something on the austrian side.

What I wanted to say is that the road on the Austrian side is already built as a 2x1 lane expressway (mostly), and we have the new 89 so I think there won't be any extension there. I've checked out the ASFINAG website and there is nothing about that road. But I found that thy will extend the expressway S31 (Mattersburg-Oberpullendorf) to the border at Rattersdorf/Kőszeg. I have not heared about any plans of extending road 87 or building M87...

The main connection of A2 with Hungary will be the expressway S7 which will join our M8 some day
