The abusive begging on public toilets on Italian motorways was very common in Italy until recently. You weren't forced to pay but many people felt like it was mandatory to leave some coins in the dish. This was plain illegal because tolls and part of profit margins from goods purchased at Autogrills are meant to be used to maintain the rest areas themselves including toilets.
The new 50c fee in Austria is better than the informal dish collecting (whose content may be pocketed by everybody, some dishes were left unattended outside toilets) but it's still bad because many people that don't want to buy anything may pee outside to save 50c.

In real life, electronic toll collection was first introduced in Bergen, Norway in 1986, and well into the 21th century many countries still struggle to implement it.

I like the Autogrill toilets in Italy. They are clean and free. And there is a sign saying that the biggest tip you could give is to keep these toilets clean. In France they are free and clean. In fact, they'll close the whole area off to clean, which means that if you really have to go, you go into the ladies room. At Total petrol stations they usually keep a free eau de toilette dispenser. Free and clean in England, and in the ever so efficient Netherlands, in some of them they are absolutely disgusting.

You will not have to pay these 50c at ASFINAG restrooms and ASFINAG only operated resting areas.

I called there, they told me, they don't find any record of payment attached to that issue id. They told me to send an email with my name and Bankauszug. I asked if account details like Kontonummer, BLZ are needed, he said no.

So I sent the mail, and got back

So I sent those details too the next day. That was on Monday.
No response since!

I think I will call next week if nothing comes.
Dunno what I else could do. Maybe ask my bank to send them an invoice of my payment or something.

Please, tell me where do you usually stop. I always find Autogrill toilets soiled.

Hmm...sounds like they made a serious mistake with your payment.
In the end I think everything will turn out fine. I never had problems with my payments for parking fines.

Here are some pictures from my latest drive in Austria. First set of pictures are not too many and not very high quality because it rained very hard, and also the light was quite poor.

Route.

Entering Austria:

On B50:

B50 turned into an express-way outside villages...

And when entering villages the expressway was over:

Entering S31:

S31 expressway turns into a motorway:

Going on S4 expressway:

S4 was a real expressway, not a motorway:

This overpass is prepared for a wider road:

Entering A2-south:

Taking the first exit towards S6 expressway (which actually is a motorway):

On S6:

There was also a one-lane tunnel:

On A9 motorway I reached when it was already dark outside, and it snowed very hard, so the traffic was moving with 40-60 km/h...

More pictures to come...

When did you take these pics?
Because I will come home on this route in 2 weeks, can I expect some snow that time?

That's not an expressway (Schnellstraße), but a motor road (Autostraße).

This pictures were taken exactly one week ago (last Sunday).

I didn't know about that. On E651 I also saw the Autostraße sign several times. The main ideea is that it's a road that allows higher speeds than usual roads.

Next morning, the road from the hotel where I stayed to Schladming looked like this:

But the day after... it snowed a lot, so the situation changed...

Yep, that's the road I had to take:

Snow chains were mandatory:

This is E651 near Schladming:

One day more, it snowed a little bit more:

Roads started to look better:

Now compare this 2 pictures:

Same place (just opposite angle), and one day difference...

Technically speaking, on the Autostrasse one is allowed to drive without the Vignette where on the Schnellstrasse one must have it sticked on the windshield glass of one's car. Right?
