S7 - Fürstenfelder Schnellstraße:

The S7 will be longer than Struma () at 29 km and link the Austrian A2 - Südautobahn with the Hungarian border at Heiligenkreuz.
According to the European comission the axis S7 (at)-A8 (hu) is not among the 30 most important TEN links in Europe and completion is planned for no earlier than 2020...

Traffic in 2005

As you can see,the traffic in the region is high,so I think it will be built much sooner than 2020.

I just re-checked and the ASFINAG homepage shows 2014-2016. Not much better...

20.000 as a maximum? Those figures would fit in one-lane roads, but 20.000 is pretty low for international transport axis on motorways.

Problem is,I dont know what "E" is...if it is thousand (ezer is thousand in hungarian),than its way too much. But 20000 is way too small, even near Budapest, since those roads have ~120000 daily ridership. So it should be around 4-60000 there...I will check the official numbers.

I have checked it,and on average,I'd say around 10000 vehicles/day is the traffic on that road. On the other hand, most motorway sections have ~20000 vehicles/day,so that means the road well-deserves at least an expressway nearby.

I don't want this thread to die, so I'll post some random pics today to demonstrate the smoothness and shininess of Austrian motorways. Brrrrr...

They're all from this page, so kudos to them!

I couldn't find official data, but according to a list on this site (follow the link "A1"), 139 out of the 292 km are at least 3/3, partly even 3/4 or 4/4, if I calculated correctly.

Nice big number. Are there many drivers, who think the most left lane is only for trucks?

not clear because A1 is under reconstruction (lasts allready some time, and will last). mostly 3+3 parts are between Wien and Voralpenkreuz, and around Salzburg

Three lanes for westbound traffic, three for eastbound traffic, three for those feeling lucky.

The A7 Mühlkreisautobahn leads through Linz, Austria's third city and the capital of the province of Upper Austria. In 2005, a city tunnel was opened below the notorious district of Bindermichl.

It's hard to widen a motorway in densely populated areas. AFAIK, nothing is planned.
