Yep, they are the same. Just the people speak a little bit different (like British English compared with American English).

Swiss German is quite different than that spoken in Germany and Austria, right?

Right. I cannot understand Schwyzer Duutsch. It's really hard for me.

Yes and no. Some words are very different.

A couple of years ago met some colleagues from several countries in the world. In the evening we went to a restaurant. After some drinks I had big problems to understand the German of my colleague from Switzerland. I even did not understand what he was talking about although he tried to speak High German. So my answers were only very short: "Ja." ("Yes"). Then I talked to a Finn in English, and I was able to understood nearly everything perfect!

Sometimes I have problems to understand Swabian, Bavarian or Saxon. I also have problems to understand what people from my neighbor hicktown are talking about (fortunately only some words).

Depends on where in Austria and Germany. I am from the state of Vorarlberg and our dialect is very similar to the Eastern Swiss dialects (Bündnerisch and St. Gallisch). Also, in Southwestern Germany (Swabia and Baden), there are dialects not dissimilar to Swiss German. If you look at the map below, in the blue-ish regions Alemannic dialects are spoken (Swiss German dialects belong to that group), while in the green-ish regions people have really a hard time understanding them. Interestingly, it's rarely a problem the other way round.

Some pictures from A10 motorway to Salzburg. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, but you can see that the weather was pretty bad...

100 km/h is the default speed limit in all Austrian motorway tunnels:

That stupid 100 km/h speed limit thanks to IG-L

Some pictures from the return trip, on the same motorway.

Interesting bridge:

View of a tunnel from a tunnel:

I will post later a picture from A9 Autobahn with the view of a tunnel, from a tunnel, through another tunnel

Austria, A9 Pyhrn Autobahn (map). In this video I recorded 21 tunnels with a total length of 21232 m.

Most of Tirol have replaced the ugly old signs with the newer ones , both local roads and motorway. Especially on the motorway they now have a more German look, with the different font and shorter arrows. In my opinion it has been a great improvement, and has actually a fresh and clearer view than the new Dutch ones, who are trying to copy Germany as well...

Does anyone know why the A4 is blocked at the A6 right now? I'm guessing a vehicular collision, since there isn't enough snow to close the road.
