i have made this photo there. they have just closed the tunnel in front of us due to some overdimensioned cargo passing in the opposite direction. we've been waiting cca 30 minutes.

Interestingly, Stuttgart is signed after the tunnel. It doesn't reappear on the signs in Germany until you reach Kreuz Memmingen.

As in Germany long distance destinations are only signposted at motorway intersections, not at every exit, that is not really surprising .

Yes, but they are usually signposted on distance signs after every exit. Stuttgart is not on them either.

Würzburg is signed. So is Munich. And Stuttgart is only interesting after Kempten I suppose. If you haven't worked out where you're going after the Füssen tunnel, you shouldn't have used the Fernpass in the first place.

the right tunnel in the video above is the old one (you can see it at the up side in 00:41).

the left one is the new one, but the are good fitted in the whole highway system because there was enough space left at that place. (no matter if it was specially for this reason). As i remember there was something similar there before. Maybe for test purpose long time ago

btw, could somebody explain me those Austrian ventilation systems? long tunnels have lowered ceiling, and at the middle of the tunnel that ceiling is interupted and there are few clustered ventilators.
for instance, in Croatian long tunnels there are ventilators placed at each few hunderds meters and these two ventilation systems are obviously different.
explanation please?

Some tunnels have a ventilation shaft in or near the middle, but not all tunnels have them. Some tunnels don't have mechanical ventilation at all because the suction from traffic is enough, but that only works with unidirectional traffic flows (i.e. two or more tubes).

i didn't know that there are tunnels with no ventilation system! do you know some examples?
does that mean that in Austrian tunnels there are no ventilators above that ceiling? i always thought that ceiling was made of some kind of net, above which are ventilators.

and all Austrian tunnels which i remember actually have that system: Karawanken, Bosruck, Gleinalm, Katschberg, Tauern, Pfänder, Plabutsch, and also 2 km + long tunnels at A9 and A10.

Mechanical ventilation became mandatory for tunnels over 1.000 meters in length and with more than 4.000 vehicles per day with the EU directive of 2004.

ok, but what is happening above this ceiling? there must be something regarding the ventilation system, right?

Yes, it is enough in normal conditions to get the exhaust gases out, but what happens in case of an accident + fire inside the tunnel? Then you need the ventilation system to work at full power, and you don't have any suction from traffic anymore...

Yes, that is why ventilation is mandatory for longer tunnels. There are specific requirements for mechanical ventilation, they should be able to keep maximum concentrations below certain levels. Some pollutants are not a problem in the open air, but become lethal in enclosed areas (such as tunnels) at relatively low concentrations.
