Yes, the Germans have to pay the Vignette for using the Austrian Motorway. But Austrians also have to pay for using their own motorways. There is no such thing like lower vehicle-tax for Austrians. And that´s the point.
I myself don´t care. Pay and drive or don´t pay and drive somewhere else.

Austrian tax is astronomical. But I'd imagine it'd be even higher if they didn't have that vignette system.

I wonder if it's a flat rate nationwide, or if these taxes are made up by the Bezirkhauptmannschafts, as they are the ones issuing registrations and collecting the taxes.

AFAIK they are the same nationwide. They are squeezing all of us equally

What's the current status of the "Klagenfurter Snellstrasse" north of Klagenfurt, Carintia? Google show it as S37 espressway but when I travelled on it in 2010 it was B83 (I think) and 4 lane single-carriaggeway.

S10 Tunnel Götschka

The breakthrough of the second tube of the Tunnel Götschka of S10 north of Linz was achieved today. The breakthrough occurred exactly 2 years after construction began. Breakthrough of the first tube was achieved in September 2013.

The tunnel is part of S10 between Unterweitersdorf and Freistadt and will open in late 2015. The tunnel is 4.4 km long. The construction cost of the tunnel is circa € 130 million.

Karawankentunnel on A11 is currently completely closed because of accident as truck with a Slovenian driver hit concrete pillars of tunnel entry portal. Driver died on site and now they are checking structural damage to the entry portal because pillars were damaged. If there is severe structural damage tunnel could be closed for a long time.

How is E652 during winter time? Can the traffic be diverted on that route (including trucks)?

Is the Wurzenpass kept open during winter (I mean for light traffic, of course)?

In snowfall you often need snow chains because of steep hills. Truck traffic is forbidden on all passes and must detour over other motorways (Udine or Graz).

It's strange for an E-road being close to trucks.

I'm guessing you don't need chains for the A9 towards Maribor, right? I don't own any...
Also, can you recommend a place where to fuel the car between Wels and Leoben?

We plan on driving with the Fiat 500, that only has a 35L tank, so it will require more times fueling

you can have autonomy of 800 km with that car since it's consumption is like lighter.

It's the 1.4L 16v 100PS model. Top speed 186 km/h. No turbo, normal gasoline motor.
I drove it max little over 170 km/h.

From what I've seen on a trip from Regensburg to Ingolstadt, driving resonable 110-120 in 6th gear because of rain, average was around 6.8-7.0 L/100km
