Another option would be to take the "Tauernschleuse" (car-trains on the Tauern railway from Böckstein to Mallnitz). Or (expensive but VERY scenic and open only in mid-summer) the Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße.

A9 is a good option, too.

There are no limits for using Felbertauerntunnel, road is not very steep and is quite straight, almost expressway standards.

Please tell me all the avoiding roads for the paid tunnels on the route, Salzburg - Slovenian border, I´ve seen on googleearth that there are alternative roads and they connect to the motorway emidiatelly after the tunnel which is very suitable.

Avoiding two tunnels isn't very suitable IMO (I think you can go through one for free).

The Tauern tunnel can be avoided easily, I´ve seen on googleearth, I don´t know for the Karavanke tunnel.

to avoid the Karawankentunnel you take exit 353 "Villach-Warmbad" on A2 you follow the B 109 in direction "Slovenia" over the "Wurzenpass"
but be aware, it will cost you lot of precious time

I see, how much time will it cost and how many kilometers is the alternative route? Edit, it´s a lot, better use the karavanke tunnel.

I measured once: you lose about 40 minutes and it costs you extra 4-5 € of gasoline. That's not worth, especially because of only avoiding 6,5 € toll.

Radi, it is only 17 km more if you take A2 near Villach, exit 317 Klagenfurt West, road 83 and 91, Loiblpass and G101 in Slovenia. you join A2 back in Podtabor. but although it is less than 20 km longer, it will be at least 45 minutes more

And then you still say the tunnel wasn't necessary to construct.

should I expect jams before the Tauerntunnel tomorrow, I will go to Bulgaria tomorrow, but only for vacation ofcourse. Is the alternative road passing through the mountain left to the tunnel good, or is it crouded with tourists?

Why don't use Pyhrn Autobahn? Tunnels there are easier to avoid.

Because it's quite a large detour to Villach... But on the Pyhrn normally there are no huge jams like on the Tauern route at all.

Radi went from Germany to Bulgaria, so he didn't need Villach.

Anyone know what are they building near Wildon/Steiermark? Looks like a new high quality road.
