A few pics of the A10 as it winds itself through the mountains in the state of Salzburg:

1. between Werfen and Bischofshofen

2. just south of the city of Salzburg (notice SZG - Mozart Airport)

3. the narrow Zederhaus Valley, between Tauern Tunnel and Katschberg Tunnel

4. southern entrance to the Tauern Tunnel

I'll have to look through my photo collection, maybe I'll find some more shots.

it is the largest, we had about 450 lorries, but now we have financial crisis :s i hope we'll get through it. you can see them everyday at ro-la train Maribor - Wels (i am mentioning it just to be on topic ). but the closest you can see them to your country is Warszawa.

450?! I wonder how many trucks does Wabere's have then? I've counted more than 100 of them last time. So you don't send your trucks to Baltic states. The firm my dad works, has 4 trucks, not many, but atleast he get's decently paid, it also is a construction firm, but mostly it's dealing with bred transportation all over Latvia. Sorry for OT!

I drove through Austria today, and I must say I'm a bit disappointed... The road quality is often quite bad, old concrete plates, really in need of a resurfacing, especially A8, parts of A9 (around tunnels) and A2 Graz - Klagenfurt.

Have you also seen rusty shoulders, like on the A2 Italy-Villach?

Hm, what's bad condition for you? I think A9 south of Graz is ok. That's just the way concrete is.

What made you think Austria had such high-quality roads? It used to be only a notch above Belgium.

You should have made a detour via the A1 to Vienna. Most of it has been resurfaced and widened to a modern 2x3 freeway.

What route are you going to take when return home?

If you have more stiff suspension (like me), A9 is smooth on first encounter, but it gets very annoying, because you feel all those small bumps in you stomach after few hours of driving over Austrian 20+ years old concrete. A10 is much better in that regard.

Newer concrete autobahns however feel very smooth (like A2 south of Vienna)

(my oh my - sounds like Radi )

Is it easy to keep the concrete smooth, or is it expensive?

You must do very good foundations for concrete, also it must be done with very high quality. They succeeded on A10 (at least from Villach to Spittal, where also 160 km/h test zone was located), but not on A2 or A9.

they have put a number of patches at places where concrete got damaged, so now there is a mixture of concrete and asphalt. those patches were not put at whole width, but only at half or third of lane.
mostly sections without those patches are ok. i don't get annoyed of concrete sound
