A14 Rheintal Walgau Autobahn

from Bludenz - Bregenz/Hörbranz

we start in Feldkirch, and will get on the highway by driving left

now you can choose to drive direction innsbruck or germany.
we drive left, because we want a few tunnels

"Ambergtunnel" (just a few years old, to keep traffic away from Feldkirch Centrum)

for you i made a special pic to see it all from above side:

after leaving the tunnel we have same parts of "Feldkirch" left, an "Rankweil" right side. we could leave now at "Feldkirch Nord"

for the next few miles happens nothing special

here we have a few "curves" ..and the railway directly next to the highway

we´re now on height "Götzis" ... in front of us "Kummenberg"
which was put in two parts for the highway

saves a lot of space

when you´re not driving and able to have a look at the wall ... you see every few centimeters the holes the made for the dynamite

at "Hohenems" we see the only "Raststätte". just a few years old.

"Zollamt Hohenems" is directly after highway exit

Commercial Area "Dornbirn" directly next to the highway

"Güterbahnhof Wolfurt", biggest train station whole "Vorarlberg" (you can just see a part of it)

we´re getting closer to "Pfändertunnel" ... big one ... a few exits there around "Bregenz"

cause it´s two-way Tunnel directly next to the portal they build a 2nd tunnel

the whole system looks quite impressive

a few kilometers after the tunnel we came to the border (which is not really in use for regular people contols)

without a "Vignette" (toll-sticker) you may have a problem now

at the time of taking this pictures it was just for trucks

on the right you can see the "asfinag sheriffs"
the rest is the "Zollamt Hörbranz"

when you see this you´re no more in Austria

the same way back in opposite direction (just a few points)

once again "Amberg-Tunnel"

the explaining of all the lights (or "psychology for beginers )

one-way tunnel

the red light on the right, should give you the feeling "This is your track" because it has the same colour like backlights from cars"

the left white light, should say "be awake", and have a look on the street.
because normally fron lights of other cars are white.

sometimes when the clean the tunnel it´s 2-way.

The electric traffic lights are computer controlled and are matched together with the "arrows for free tracks" and the speed limit signs, also with the traffic lights

all marks in the tunnel are not passiv (lighted by the cars), but active

Very interesting images.

I have a map that shows a proposed motorway connection between the Austrian A-14 and the Swiss A-1 between Dornbirn and Bregenz. What is the status of that?

the connection to Switzerland will not be built the next years.

it would be on height "Güterbahnhof Wolfurt" ... but in direction switzerland is an "Vogelschutzgebiet" ... hmmmm "bird protection area"

so the politic has to discuss for long time

yes. think so.

But first 2. Pfänder-Röhre. then the other things.

they also want to build an S-Bahn in the Rheintal, but how this will make S18 unnecessary -> don´t know -> that´s politic, when you get paid for doiing like you´re at work

link for german-speaking: http://vorarlberg.orf.at/stories/208121/

also the free work of a student: http://static.twoday.net/rauch/files...bahn-endf1.pdf

this should show alternatives to S18

Last time i travelled from Bregenz to the Swiss A13, we used the connection via Liechtenstein. Put your feet on the gas one time, and you're through that country

there are a few hiden speed controls very small, but very rich

10 chf per kmh, no tolerance. instead of 50 drive 80 (can happen easily) and you have to pay about 200Euros

when you drove there, you took this exit normally trought my hometown

Well I did and I got to pay some 20 chf for driving around 60km/h...
Still my only spped fine, and I've got my licence since April 2006 and I'm ALWAYS too fast. Pretty funny that it's Liechtenstein that fined me first...

Concrete or asphalt is used more often? the colour of the road just seems between the 2.

Ofcourse, it has great mountains, so has Salzburg but they are not so high. Anyway, i think new Bulgarian motorways look similar to Austrian motorways.

A pic of the A10 Tauernautobahn Tauerntunnel. The road doesn´t seem in best condition but the landscape is very great.

5 HRS of waiting time for the Tauern Tunnel (A10)!

What idiot is gonna drive today that route? You spend the entire afternoon on the Autobahn, watching the hot asphalt...
