Yesterday we had first snow in Slovenia this season too, and it was also chaotic.

Austrian friends and fans, please tell me something:

Are there any plans to expand the 2 X 1 segments of A14 between Grins and Bludenz to 2 X 2, including the tunnels?

Yes, there are some plannings going on. However, completion is only planned for 2019-2020. Btw, it's not A14 but S16 and Braz not Grins . See here on page 4 (sorry, only a German version available).

It's now been a while since the new section of Vienna's S1 was opened to traffic.

Here's today's webcam picture during morning "rush hour":

Wasn't it said, that its capacity was filling up too quickly?

I don´t like, that it has so much concrete, like many Austrian motorways, even the surface seems to be concrete, is that true?

You probably mean the southern part of the S1 between A2 and A4. The picture above shows the new segment of the northern S1. Google maps still doesn't show that new part, but it's been open for more than a month.

Yes, I meant the southern part.

For maps, it takes some time, usually they update once a year.

Finally, I got a chance to try out the brand new S2 and S1, part of Vienna's northern bypass.
The weather was nice, the soft winter light was perfect, but the road surface was about as bad as it can get for road geeking. So I apologize in advance. I must have used up an entire bottle of wiper fluid for that short trip.

The first two pictures are on the northernmost part of the A23, shortly before it changes its name to S2.

This overpass marks the beginning of the S2:

This is the existing part of the S2, where all at-grade intersections have been replaced by tunnels and new ramps.

Here we are on the part that has been built from scratch:

At some point S1 signs make their appearance.

At the S1/A5 interchange traffic is dumped onto the B7. The remaining portion is scheduled to open next year.

Bonus picture: the view from one of the many new overpasses:

S2 southbound

B8, just outside the city limits, near the S2 on-ramp:

I included this one just to show you what I had to deal with.

BONUS: Vienna city streets

(it doesn't really fit in here, but I didn't know where else to post it)

Vienna's own Skyline Drive in the hills of the 19th district:

Very nice report!

Yeah, taking photos is hard these days, your windshield is dirty all the time and there's a lot of splash, even without precipitation.

Are there any pictures of 8 laned A2 in morning rushhour taken towards Wien? Width of the new road, order, dense traffic and a view toward some tall skyscrapers, just the right type of entrance to big city. Sadly I couldn't photo that impressive view.

And it wasn't just the windshield. The sun's reflection was really blinding and you could barely see where you're going. In the white area of the picture it would have been impossible to see the car in front of you. When I entered the tunnel on the A23, the first three seconds were completely black. It's almost a miracle there weren't any accidents.
