NO disrespect guys, great design but choice of location I believe dramtically takes away so much opportunity from the City. There is absolutely no reason why a hospital needs to be in such a location. Was there any public criticism/protest about it? A real real shame!

I believe they will be left where they are. I hope that if that torrens area gets a revamp as they said it would, I hope something can happen to those tracks to make them dissapear.

I believe there was some issue re the location. Mainly from current RAH facaulty who did not like the fact that the hospital would be amost 2km from other health facilities (as the current one is placed amongst them) and the previous Liberal leader, Redman who wanted to turn this area into more of an entertainment strip and felt the Hospital there would take what could be potencialy a great area for a new casino, hotels, etc.

Anyone else keen to correct or add anything else to this?

yes I would agree with that. If its going to remain in a prime location then it should stay close to other health facilities, but more importantly close to the university and medical school. The large site it's now going to occupy would have been better suited to other things like what you have described above. They could have created real vibrant places/spaces and show cased the city, but now a lost opportunity!!!

There is still a lot of area around the Festival Theatre and and casino and across the river to develope entertainment precints. I believe the new convention centre upgrade involves the entire area and thus adding more life with cafes and restaurants... I so I believe.

I do agree though the potencial of that area is mad. Ah well.

we should focus on developing our city squares and other existing underutilised spaces close to the CBD for entertainment such as behind Parliament house before some empty railyards

yes you focus on more than 1 site but I disagree with you somewhat. Developers need incentives, a big site on prime location has more to offer. Once it has gone, it's gone. Take a look at CityLink, Perth Waterfront and Perth Riverside- they are large key sites- not just tucked away blocks,

I still dislike the NRAH location but there is still plenty of room for development around the new RAH. Such as along the riverbank and a massive large block between North Terrace, future Health Precinct and Morphett St Bridge. Which is opposite the future western entrance to the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The Riverbank Precinct development has a much better chance of being a success then a leisure precinct that is miles away from anything. It will include the usual like restaurants, bars, cafes, footbridge and possible cinemas but also a large pedestrian square (Festival Square) between the Festival Centre, KWS, Parliament House and the Railway Station. There will also be the creation of a new pedestrian gateway between North Terrace and the Riverbank/Adelaide Oval > including restaurants and potentially upmarket retail stores.

Both the Adelaide Casino and Festival Centre are earmarked for major redevelopments. The proposed southern grandstand in Adelaide Oval will feature a small gathering area with TV screens aswell as a large restaurant/bar facility facing the city skyline and riverbank.

You can't exactly compare this to those Perth developments to the old railway yards. The Perth Link development is smack bang between the existing CBD and Northbridge, while the other two are on the edge of a large water body.

The libs seriously screwed up their chances at the last election, if they proposed a much realistic revamp for the current RAH then they may have had a chance. The River West proposal was very exciting but let's face it had white elephant written all over it.
