coruna's legacy
kind of sad when someone gets banned. Coruna was kind of uppity but I hate to see anyone get banned RX too with his obnoxious caps and propensity for fighting. Anyway these pics were like coruna's big contribution and I think he was kind of proud of them. The whole thing makes me a little sad

If you miss Coruna, Tallerthebetter, you can find him/her on skyscraperpage often repeating the info he/she reads here and taking credit for it as it if was his/her own.

Safe to say everyone here appreciates great pics (and I wish I could contribute some) but the excessive stuff is overkill. To be honest, I stopped even opening the thread you're talking about until there was a "page 2" Certainly, that's not to say that pics aren't appreciated---it's one of the best things about SSC (and we have "James") but 200+ in one thread is a little masturbatory, agreed. |

That photo really makes you concerned for Brickell Key in a hurricane. It looks precarious on the most calm day.

Just to clarify...No, I didn't actually take the picture myself, I happened to come across it on my other favorite website.

Eastern going under was a big blow to the economy. They were a huge employer and all their machinists and executives (along with a large percentage of their flight staff) called Miami home.
Miami Springs took the biggest hit, but it was felt all over. My dad's fishing boats at Haulover saw a tangible drop in business because those were people with the kind of stable jobs and disposable income that enjoyed a night out fishing for snapper. Real locals. They've never been replaced. Before Eastern, it was National Airlines disappearing. Another really good local corporation with well-paying jobs swept aside. Southeast Bank, too. They were Miami through and through and tossed plenty of money into local coffers aside from ATM fees. Hell, even Burger King has been answering to corporate overlords in London or wherever for the past 20 years or so. Pillsbury owned 'em for awhile...not sure who ultimately calls the shots these days (but it's not Miami, alas, even though they were born there) Ryder is still there...who else? Plenty of banking money along Brickell, but none of it headquartered in Miami, is it? I dunno...there's a ton of regional offices in Miami (which is a good thing) but it seems like there were more major corporate headquarters in the city 30 years ago than now. I hadn't really given it a lot of thought until now but does anyone else see the same thing---or something different? Or maybe it's not even a big deal

Interesting pictures! I didn't know there were Banco Santander & HSBC Banks in the States.

Here is what i think the architect was thinking....go Netflix the movie "The Fountainhead" (Yep...finally out on DVD, not sure what took so long. The best book I've ever read and a great movie). Check out the rendering that they use for the Enright Building. It looks a hell of lot like 50 Biscayne doesn't it? |
