This property is located amidst a beautiful landscaped park cum sports complex. Just a little bit of jazzing up, and Delhi can earn loads of money from it!
After the first Delhi Metro Line opened for public (there's a station - Netaji Subash Chandra Place - right next to the Tower), most of the areas along the line have seen a big retail boom. The Delhi Govt. can make good money if they spruced up this whole Tower and the adjoining garden and threw it open to public.

On a bright sunny day, the Metro zipping past below the TV tower is a great sight!

For example what are these buildings...

I know the Hindustan Times (on the right) and the Naurang Bhavan (Red/Black)

The three buildings next to Gopal Bhavan

And what about Nehru Place? How many of the buildings in Nehru Place are 12 storey and higher. Same question for Janakpuri District Centre, Cama Place, Rajendra Place..

Any ideas?
I can help, if it's ok ...

I'm not sure how old these pictures are but there are new building which have popped up in CP. I don't know the names of the buildings next to GopalDas Bhawan, never bothered to know. I visit the BCL very often so will check it up for ya!

Janakpuri District Centre doesn't have a lot of buildings except for the District Centre itself. Closer to the district centre, there's Mahatta Towers which is pretty tall. Rajendra Place -- UGLY. Couple of red medium rise buildings (Suncity you got to help me differentiate between Low, Medium and High rise). Bhikaji Cama Place is my favorite, closely built buildings (sandstone covered walls?) which kind of look tres cool when you drive past on the Bhikaji Cama Flyover. There are quite a few buildings, Hyatt Regency, GAIL, and one more at the rear. Am not familiar with Nehru Place, don't know much.

Hope, I was of some help.

It sure is ok for you to help!!!!

In fact you gotta help!!!

:-)

I am not aware of any globally accepted standard for the height of a highrise building.

In India many cities consider 5 storey + buildings as highrise. In Mumbai a seven storey + building is considered a highrise. It is relative I guess. Similary there seems to be no agreement on what's a skyscraper. I have seen TOI claim 14 storey buildings as skyscrapers.

www.emporis.com (formerly skyscrapers.com) generally accepts any building 12 storeys or more as high rise. That would be 36 metres / 120 ft or taller.

Some websites consider a 30 storey or 90 m / 300 ft + building as a skyscraper.

Hope that helps.

But if you can check those building names and number of floors that would be great.

I think the other building in Bhikaji Cama Place you are refering to is the Engineers India Bhavan. The Punjab National Bank is also at BCP.

Because there is a lot of dust (various reasons).

Also the municipality and the multitude of government agencies that "look after the city" don't do any regular maintenance or cleaning work.

You can immediately say that a photo is of an Indian city by looking at the edge between pavements (if they exist) and the road..there will be plenty of dust.

They have left no central median or shoulders on either side (of course this may be a rail bridge)...And look at that truck..it's not in its lane.. that answers your lane question in the mumbai thread.

And look at those people.. they seem to be crossing Delhi streets like it's their backyard.

As long as their is no civic sense, discipline and pride amongst the janata, Indian cities will continue to look shoddy.

The problem of a narrow medium isn't a big deal. Several US expressway stretches have a W-beam or those concave conical-profile blocks as a divider. That road is still expressway standard, IMHO.

As for lanes, that truck may be moving to the driving lane to let the car carrying the photographer pass. Another explanation is that you can take a horse to the water but you can't make it drink Yet another explanation is that you're just nitpicking to rile me up I don't see it as a reason not to have lanes properly demarcated and frequently repainted, on every road. Driver's will figure things out in due course.

I don't think this problem has a nearterm solution. We have a large population. Our cities are crowded, badly planned and have decrepit infrastructure. If a road is an arterial city road, there are several solutions to keep pedestrians off, ranging from fencing off sidewalks from road and build regular overbridges on the cheaper end, to building an elevated road on the more expensive end, where the ground level is 'aam junta level' meant for pedestrians, bicyclists and anything else.

I'm not really bothered about madpedestrianitis. Its not a high priority. Quick fixes like fenced off pedestrian sidewalks are sufficient for most roads for now. If we build proper integrated road systems that allow organized flow of traffic and improve driving speeds to 50km/h or more at least in regular sections, it will act as a natural deterrent for all except the foolhardy and suicidal. Pedestrians largely walk across at will because the cars themselves are barely moving.

Not really. Just expressing my frustrations with the mess. Where better to vent than here?

Is Delhi really that clean. Looks very good for an Indian city.Delhi's streets look so good, with those trees. Wish they could do the same everywhere. And that GQ section is amazing. Most of the parts of the GQ look like expressway. Are they xways.Delhi is kinda like London. Not many tall buildings, but great city.

Indian, the New Delhi core area (aka NDMC area, aka Lutyens Bunglow zone) roads are very neat and clean. and the CLEANEST roads in New Delhi are in Chanakya Puri/Diplomatic Enclave area where all foreign embassy's are located. You can compare roads in this area with any western capital city. You will not even find dust on these roads.

The Brit Counsulate looks like a Gateway Computer retail outlet.

Ya think they may have some cross-corporate-sponsorship?
