I'm impressed with the crashworthiness of the Link car, only dents and no shattered glass after cutting the trailer in half.

Jokes abound on the Seattle page.

Link train crashes into truck... Saves 12 lives...

About some of the proposed extensions to Seattle's light rail system:

The North Link: After it is extended to Mountain Terrace, it is planned for eventual extension to Lynwood and possibly to Everett.
The South Link: It is planned to link SeaTac Airport to Tacoma.

The Sounder commuter rail line already extends to Tacoma and Everett. And there is also a proposed line for Western Seattle.

Maybe someday. But the voter-approved, planned (rather than potential) parts involve South Link going first one more station south to the other end of Sea-Tac, then eventually to Federal Way (if funding holds out). Tacoma is an aspiration. I don't know what you mean by "Western Seattle." West Seattle (the southwestern quadrant of the city) certainly not. Maybe a station along the current route along the northern West shoreline, like Ballard or Belltown.

The proposed Western Seattle line is planned to service districts like Ballard, West Seattle, Fremont, and Belltown. Please do not confuse the two.

Please don't confuse "Proposed" with "We'd really like to have this". There is no official proposal for such a line.

The dead Seattle Monorail plan roughly followed this route, and now many transit advocacy groups (and most sane/smart people in the city) are pushing for a similar routing for a future light rail line:
http://seattlesubway.org/
http://seattletransitblog.com/2011/1...eattle-subway/

The ST2 transportation package did include money to study such a route, but that study has not been performed yet. The city is pushing to have that study start sooner.

It would also be nice if we didn't try to start any dispute on this thread? Thanks.

The Western Seattle light rail line is the idea of Michael McGinn, Mayor of Seattle.

Does Mayor Michael McGinn have any "ideas" to build a transit tunnel to Bainbridge Island?

The only reason I ask is that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg had an "idea" to extend the 7 train of the subway to New Jersey, and I would think these fanciful pie-in-the-sky ideas are not just limited to mayors on the East Coast.

Nope it won't happen for another 50 years or so. A while ago, there was a proposed bridge to connect Bainbridge Island but they killed it. I don't see it will happen for really long time.

Sad, but at least in this case the rail transit got the better of the deal.

One of the nicest transit-related sounds is when a trolleybus pole passes through a wire junction. It's a little clickety-clack that sounds neat and cool.
