1Malaysia Clinics
Quote:
1Malaysia clinics provide affordable health care
Monday April 16, 2012
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...&if_height=202

Great financial relief:
Patients registering at the 1Malaysia clinic in Rasah Jaya, Seremban.

MALACCA: The 1Malaysia clinic which was introduced by the government has provided the public, especially those living in rural areas with greater access to basic health care services for a low fee.

One of the 1Malaysia clinics, which opened in Taman Merdeka, gave Mohd Salim Manap a great financial relief as he frequently has to send his daughter who suffers from asthma to the clinic for medical attention.

He said previously, he would send his daughter to the nearest private clinic which would cost at least RM30 per visit resulting in a monthly medical expenditure of over RM200 a month.

Now he only pays RM1 for each visit to the 1Malaysia clinic, which has eased his financial burden considerably.

The 1Malaysia clinic programme is an initiative under the Cost of Living NKRA offering the public alternative means for daily and basic necessities at lower prices in face of the rising cost of living that have affected the low- to middle-income households.

There are 50 clinics nationwide to date and they are opened daily from 10am to 10pm offering affordable treatment for fever, cold and other minor ailments.

The clinics also provide1Malaysia clinics a boon to poorfollow-up treatment for diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and first aid services like cleaning wounds.

KPJ strengthens foothold in East M’sia
Posted on August 3, 2012, Friday
http://www.theborneopost.com/2012/08...-in-east-msia/

KUCHING: KPJ Healthcare Bhd’s (KPJ) acquisition of the remaining stake in Sabah Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (SMC) – the operator of Sabah Medical Centre – has been regarded as a strategically sound move as it would allow the former to strengthen its foothold in East Malaysia.

The healthcare group recently announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire the remaining 49 per cent stake in SMC for a cash consideration of RM54.9 million, which would be financed via internally-generated funds.

RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd (RHB Research) noted in a research report yesterday that SMC had reported a net profit of RM5.8 million for the financial year ended December 31, 2011 (FY11), representing approximately four per cent of KPJ’s FY11 earnings.

“While the acquisition consideration of RM54.9 million implies a target FY12 price earnings ratio (PER) of 17.6 to 16.8 times, we believe the acquisition is still attractive as the state has a lower ratio of public hospital beds per 10,000 population of 12.9 as compared to the nation’s average of 13.3.

“We believe this presents ample opportunity for KPJ to grow its market share in the state. Furthermore, operational risk is lower, in our view, as the hospital was already managed by KPJ since mid-2010.”

The target PER was on the assumption of FY12 earnings growth of 10 to 15 per cent for the hospital, and was higher than its previous average acquisition PER range of eight to 12 times, RHB Research stated.

Separately, the research house noted that KPJ was currently constructing a new hospital building (comprising 250 beds) to replace the existing Sabah Medical Centre, which would eventually be converted into a public hospital.

It added that first phase of the new Sabah Medical Centre (comprising 100 beds) was scheduled for opening in the third quarter (3Q) 2012 and thus, should begin contributing from FY13 onwards.

The research house made no changes to earnings forecasts for FY12 to FY14 (at RM153.6 million for FY12, RM185.1 million for FY13 and RM223 million for FY14) and as it had earlier projected sufficient capital expenditure of RM200 million for the same time period.

RHB Research noted that risks to its forecast “include lower-than-expected patient numbers, if there is slower-than-expected economic recovery or a serious disease outbreak (such as SARS or swine flu) in Malaysia.

“A slower-than expected turnaround in loss-making hospitals would also be a drag on earnings growth,” it added while making enterprise value per bed assumptions of RM1.25 million for FY13 and RM1.12 million for FY14.

Concurrently, the group’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin was forecasted to dip from 13.4 per cent for FY12 to 12.6 and 12.5 per cent for FY13 and FY14 respectively.

“We continue to like KPJ for its aggressive expansion plans which should help it maintain its dominance in the local healthcare sector,” it opined as it maintained the stock’s fair value at RM6.86 per share based on an unchanged 2013 PER of 23.5 times.

UEM-Najcom jv bags RM848m hospital project

Who's the Design Architect & Consultants for this grand hospital? Based on the brief information on number of beds and hotel room capacity, it works out to be pretty costly for such facility.

As it's almost a billion ringgit development of public funding - notwithstanding whatever the financial arrangement - the details should be transparent. Where are the NGO's to safeguard our interest....!!
