i think it could be about WWII destruction that probably damaged most of Japan's Cities and towns and transports.
great photos as well, also about the shinjuku station who would have thought it looked like it wasn't busy when it was built but now its the world's busiest station. |

Track doubling 1st started in the late 19th century, but only on the Tokaido Main Line starting from Tokyo to Osaka in steps. But after 1900 more and more lines were converted to double track. At time of the war most of the main lines from Tokyo to the other big cities were already doubled. After the war only the remaining single track parts on the main lines in Japan plus and remaining commuter lines in the greater Tokyo area were doubled. The busiest lines
Electrification for the mainlines started only after 1950, before that only commuter and private lines mostly in big cities were already electrified. The Yamanote line (Tokyo ring line) for example was already electrified in 1909, actually it became the Yamanote line after the electrification of the tracks. But the Tokaido Main Line was completely electrified in 1956, that's only 8 years before the Tokaido Shinkansen came in service. |

That is a pretty impressive railway! Is it easy to get to from Tokyo (as it looks pretty close)?

That's beautiful. I simply don't have any words to describe it.
To what major city is this town close to? |
