Okay, this is a slight overload. Is it possible for you to please caption, credit and potentially make a coherent story out of the image posting so that it doesn't become spam-like? Many thanks...

I already asked you nicely in the Japan Urban Transport thread too.

White flashing signal (JR West?)

In addition to the flashing yellow indicators at crossings, I'm beginning to see a very bright white flashing signal in what I believe are JR West areas.

Initially I thought that it was a replacement for the yellow indicators and it just seemed white as it's clearly LED as opposed to incandescent, but the other night I saw some cab view footage that had one of these new signals very close to the yellow signal and:

* it's clearly white as opposed to yellow
* it's extremely bright. It would appear to be almost blinding in nighttime conditions

Any ideas as to what this signal represents?

If you mean the same indicators I'm thinking of, they're meant for the drivers to indicate that the crossing is closed and clear. If you look closely, it looks to me that most crossings are fitted with sensors to determine if they're clear before the gates close.
They appear just as bright as the regular signals because they are aligned with the track. I suppose if they're not lit the driver has to (try to) stop his train just in front of that crossing. That's also the reason trains are limited to 130 km/h in Japan, otherwise the stopping distance would be to long.

riles28, That train you just showed is a common sight between Osaka and Ise--they're primarily used for limited expresses from Osaka Abenobashi Station to the Ise Peninsula.

Has JR East mentioned what trainsets will be used between Jōetsumyōkō and Niigata? Given that it may be a reserved seat "premium" service to match the service on the Shinkansen trainset, my guess would be E653's.

You sir seems to be correct, since on the E653 series page on Wikipedia it says:
Quote:
The sub-fleet of four four-car sets are scheduled to be renumbered as E653-1100 series sets for use on new Shirayuki limited express services operating between Niigata and Arai from the start of the revised timetable on 14 Match 2015.[15] These sets will receive a new livery consisting of ivory white with vermillion and blue stripes intended to evoke an image of the sunset over the Sea of Japan. The interiors will be refitted with new seat covers, similar to those used in the E7 series and W7 series shinkansen trains.
They also give this PDF document as reference: http://www.jrniigata.co.jp/Scripts/p...rayukie653.pdf

E653's cascaded off the Joban Line, apparently.

Or in short, JR East will move all the E653's to operate between Arai and Akita.

New livery for Nankai 50000 series. After Gundam, rapi:t x Peach:

Honestly, I prefer the Gundam livery. This looks like the horrible Renfe painting.

A second video recorded at Osaka-Namba Terminal with lovely Solari Udine style panels.

Is this the same set that got a Neo-Zeon paint job? Because the Gundam train had interior decoration as well, so I'd imagine that it would be hard to get rid of all that so soon.
