Amazing!

EDIT: Just a question for those of you who know better: is the whole Variante going to be opened simultaneously in 2013 or will some stretches be opened earlier? I read that the 4.5 km of Badia Nuova-Aglio stretch (which if I remember correctly involves an entirely new 3-lane carriageway for the southbound traffic) will be completed this year, it would be nice to see some works open to fruition after the Casalecchio-Sasso Marconi opened in 2009...

I don't know but I suppose they won't because the new stretch is too far from the old stretch, then the traffic can't move on the A1

I think they will open the small(er) Aglio-Barberino stretch (6km) before the rest of the project. From Autostrade per l'Italia website:

Quote:

So the final situation between Bologna and Firenze on A1 will be like this:

Bologna - La Quercia: old highway widened to 2x3, some small sectors realigned, some artificial tunnels. Works completed and opened to traffic.

La Quercia - Aglio: new 2x2 highway is under construction (entirely new alignment). Drivers will be able to choose whether they want to drive on the new or old highway, as both highways (existing and new) will flow in both directions. It is my guess - and no more than a guess - that they might forbid larger vehicles on the old highway with dynamic signs if traffic on the new highway approaches saturation.

Aglio - Firenze: new 1x3 southbound highway under construction. When opened, the 2 carriageways of the old (existing) 2x2 highway will serve northbound traffic only (and I suppose larger vehicles will be banned from one of the carriageways), and the 3 new lanes will serve southbound traffic

Are you sure about this? I knew they widened Firenze Nord-Firenze Sud, the Barberino-Firenze is still in bad water...

From autostrade per l'italia
Quote:
TRATTA BARBERINO - FIRENZE NORD

The construction of a new 3-lane southbound carriageway is in the plans. Northbound traffic will use current 4 lanes, upgraded accordingly.

You are right. I just mixed up that sector with the widening of A1 within Firenze.

Usually on such a landscape is more common to have the road 'at grade' or to dig the 'hills' not to have a too large slope

I suppose my reason is because the clay soils often (most common in province of agrigento).
In the same way we did for the work of the Syracuse-Catania (near the river Simeto).
But it is my assumption! I am not prepared on this subject.

P.S.

Amazing photos about A1 Bologna-Firenze!

Yeah, please consider deleting non-relevant pictures (for this sub forum) from the quote instead of simple copy-paste.

actually I find them interesting, they are all taken from the highway and show the landscape of the large venetian area

If you find them disturbing I can delete them however

I don't mind seeing the structures along the road, they help to establish the road in its local setting.

Of course not, it is a parking lot.

By the way, I was surprised to see (feel) potholes and renovation works on less than 2 years old Passante of Mestre.

More A3 constructions, here they shall finish probably in 2012.

The entire highway (excluding 58 km which are still not U/C) shall be completely renovated (rebuilt?) by 2014

di seguito metto anche il link con le foto precedenti (settembre 2010), per poter fare un confronto sull'avanzamento dei lavori.
Se riesco, in serata, aggiungo anche le foto fatte in Loc. La Motta.

I think they are mainly working on tunnels in this section

however this entire project is definetely slow but it's also the consequence of rebuilding a highway on top of the existing one, which was always going to be a dumb decision

However, all that notwithstanding, around 210 km have been completed of the 430 of this long, long highway in the mountains

heavy traffic, nasty weather with all the rain and freezing, than snow and rain and some more freezing. Plus the first layer on a brand new road tends to suffer from "settling".

Might be a poor job as well, don't know for sure.

Let us see layer #2

A27 related news from local newspapers.
5 seismic mobile stations (from Farra d'Alpago/BL - to Nove/TV) will be added on the two steady ones to find out the reason of the last, regular, rumbles. perhaps low seismic activity
