Dir. is not an acronym but an abbreviation, and Italians do like and use them a lot. BreBeMi and FiPiLi are kind of exceptions, but both use on the very few widespread acronyms in Italy, the Province ones. BreBeMi to be honest uses different acronmys from the official ones (Bre for Brescia, while the official one is BS, Be for Bergamo - BG - and the only correct one is Mi for Milano).

By the way, what is the story behind the road numbering of the Messina - Catania - Siracusa motorway? Nowadays it turns from A18 into RA 15, then into an unnumbered motorway, then SS 114 and then A18 again... Weird.
It was initially to be called the whole (from Messina to Catania and Siracusa Gela passing) highway 18. Only that each case has been made in a very distant. This has not only given a different name for this reason but also for the fact that there are different bodies that manage the various segments that compose it.
The "Consorzio per le Autostrade siciliane" (CAS) manages the 18-Messina-Catania and Siracusa-Gela in the forthcoming financial year, between Syracuse and Rosolini.
ANAS manages the ring road of Catania (RA 15 "highway of Catania "), SS114 (who has' motorway characteristics) and, between the two appointments, the new (25 km) NSA339 "auostrada Siracusa-Catania. "

Well, the fact that they are managed by different companies should not be a problem. Other autostrade are divided likewise but mantain a unique name (A4 run by 4 different companies, A12 by 3 and so on...)

I didn't understand this sentence:

I wanted to say that were made at different times, so you probably have been nomenclature according to the legislation.

IMHO.

Old viaducts remain or will they be torn down? It is pretty old autostrada, actually.

The old viaducts are part of the Messina-Palermo Highway while those seen in the pictures are the viaducts for the future interchanges of Giostra and Annunziata which will make an enormous traffic flow and advantage for Messina.

Yes, the link road with the bridge over the Strait will engage with the junctions of Giostra and Annunziata.

Junctions serve as collector of the motorway on the Messina-Palermo (A20) and the north of the city and, eventually, the indirect relationship between Messina and the entrance to the Strait of Messina Bridge.

Can't believe this:

http://corrieredelveneto.corriere.it...69872112.shtml

Four drunk guys crossed the pedestrian-only Ponte Costituzione (the one designed by Calatrava) in Venice driving a car. The brigde resisted, but the guys were arrested by the police and were given a three-year prohibition to enter the city of Venice.

Yes. The mayor of Venice, Orsoni, stated: "This episode is serious, for its dangerousness to people and to the bridge itself, and we will not let something like that happen again. Those guys will be banned from entering the city for three years. One positive note: at least this was a further test of the bridge's stability"

If they are serious, they can get an overturn on the that entry limitation at a superior court. I'd love to have money just to finance their appeal with the best lawyers, not because I agree with a stupid move like that (driving a car over, drunk, over a pedestrian bridge), but because Venice's mayor often overstretches and overstep the limits of that office's authority.

It reminded me of when they tried to bloat an idea of a "access toll" on every person entering the city, Italian citizens (an EU ones) included.

EDIT: the enter ban was not issued by the mayor, but the police authority. Yet, is could be questioned in a superior court.

Due to of air pollution on A50, A51 and A52 the speed limit is 70 km/h (instead of 90 km/h)
