A journey in Sicily, late september

the plot of my report(different days)
some pics of the Autostrada Catania-Rosolini, the unnumbered one: the new track Catania-Villasmundo is NSA 339 (ANAS), Villasmundo-Siracusa sud is SS114(ANAS again), eventually Siracusa sud-Rosolini is A18(CAS:Consorzio Autostrade Siciliane)

please note the up-to-date (2009) tunnels:
hard shoulder and safe pathways

Respect for the speed limits!

Slow, buckled tarmac!

ending of the NSA 339

Now SS114. useless sign (it should be Melilli, Zona Industriale)

to be continued. I'm a lazy-(former)boy...

Are you a girl now?

Anyway, is that motorway new or just renovated?

1) no, but now I have half idea to do....

2) Catania-Villasmundo/Augusta exit was open in december 2009, Villasmundo-Siracusa sud in early '80s (now ANAS is getting restored tarmac and signage, not guard-rail). take a look at this, but only the last vimeo video runs. check the gap between the new tarmac at the vVillasmundo/Augusta exit and the olt track of the S114

Landslide happened yesterday on A12 near La Spezia, a heavy truck was rolled over by the power of the mud and the driver was trapped in the driver compartment for 5 hours. Pictures are unbelievable:
http://genova.repubblica.it/cronaca/...12-23857211/1/
Tha A12 is currently closed in that section, as are the national road "Aurelia" and the railroad due to heavy rains. That region is basically isolated, and the death toll is now 5.

And on another subject, since many of you were asking about the Messina Bridge... it seems now it probably won't be built: EU canceled it from its list of priorities... the Italian minister says it will be built anyway, but nobody believes him:

How many days A12 is said to be closed? These heavy rains are really destructive

No, they didn't say. Unfortunately heavy damages occurred in the National Park of the Cinque Terre... they say that Monterosso, one of the 5 villages built on rocks by the sea, extremely popular in Italy and one of the World Heritage Sites, basically does not exist any more.

A section of A15 is also closed due to subsiding of a viaduct.

I'm sure it will resurface within a couple of years. Stuff like this doesn't really have a definitive ending, history has learned us.

I hope they withdraw financing for the Palermo-continent high speed rail line as well. Without the bridge, there is no point spending € 2,1 billion for rail in Sicilia. Actually, they could take the opportunity to close down many railways in Sicilia as well.

Today works on the Pedemontana Veneta, the 100-km-long tolled superstrada connecting A4 near Montecchio Maggiore and A27 near Spresiano, have started. It should be completed within 5 years but who knows, given the Italian present economic situation.

Don't think so. A numbers are reserved to Autostrade, which this one is not.

I understand that it will be a SS-road. Will it be grade-separated, 2 lanes per direction + hard shoulder?

The first tolled Superstrada in Italy, if I understand correctly. Won't BreBeMi or Eastern Milano Bypass or Pedemontana Lombarda be tolled?
