Hmm, bad quality of tubular steel barrier. It should not broke off that easily, even under the truck trailer.

Maybe, but it held the truck in position and didn't let it fall. I'd say it did its job.

It's an urban area, there is no room for a better exit.

In real life, electronic toll collection was first introduced in Bergen, Norway in 1986, and well into the 21th century many countries still struggle to implement it.

Why? Accelerating and decelerating lanes are long enough.

I think they widened the motorway from 2x2 to 2x3 to 2x4 lanes there, just reducing the space at the toll plazas.

I'm almost sure that this exit has been completely re-made, in the context of re-making the whole A3.

probably. but it was epic; you pass the toll boot, immidiately make 180° turn and you are aleady on motorway
but is A3 through Napoli finished?

A18 - new sector tender to be held soon

A18 will have a key sector put to tender soon (in blue). EU is helping pay part of the bill.

This is a vital highway for Sicilia, as the completion of this sector will allow three medium cities and one port to have access to Catania and the continent via highways, alleviating the two 1+1 expressways used mostly by Modica/Ragusa/Vittoria to Catania traffic.

In any case, the whole area is one of the most beautiful in Italy and the new highway will fit nicely in the natural environment.

Take a look at this viaduct, currently carrying a parallel expressway to the future A18 in Modica.

Driving from Catania to Gela will always be shorter via the direct national road rather than via this long motorway detour.

To Gela, yes. But to Ragusa or Modica, certainly is not shorter in terms of time.

Otherwise, I agree with the critic: I think highway numbers should always represent a natural, effective route between all its non-adjacent exist and, if that is not the case, it should be split.

I think A18 should end in Siracusa and other number de given to the Siracusa-Gela-(Agrigento - hopefully one day) sector.

I don't think so. Last news I heard is that they should finish Naples-Salerno section by the end of this year.

A1+A3 through Napoli should be double-deck. But being in a seismic active area as most of ITlay, that is a big no-go.

If you are near to a GRA exit and intend to go elsewhere in the immediate vicinity of other GRA exit, I can't think of any situation where taking the "diametric" route through the central areas (some of which are odious ZTLs) would be any faster than circling through the GRA.

True, but for no reason you drive more than half GRA at once.

There is an accident sign (red), then: "it is advised to take alternative routes"
