Who knows when A1 Milano - Modena - Bologna was widened to 2x3 lanes? According to Google Earth imagery, the entire route was already 2x3 lanes wide since at least 2003. Modena - Bologna was further widened to 2x4 lanes in 2006.

Must have been long time ago. I remember A4 Venezia-Milano (it has similar traffic and relief characteristics) being completely 2x3 already from 1996.

There are several plans.

* A1 Milano - Lodi
* A1 Piacenza-Sud - Modena-Nord
* A1 Roma - Frosinone
* A14 Bologna - Dir. Ravenna

Well that would make sense, considering two 2x3 motorways join there. Currently 6 lanes from Como and Gallarate funnel down to 4 lanes towards Milano.

This will be the first 10 lanes highway in Italy if we don't count collector roads parallel to the motorway near Bologna, Verona, Padova, Vicenza and Udine.

I've driven The A4 from Trieste and after that the A23 till Austrian border.
Very good quality of surface and markings, tunnels also and with nice lights.
To bad it rained the entire way. Some parts were limited to 110 km/h because of that, but most drivers did 130 or more. I also didn't stick to 110 all the time.
The cost was 10,40€

All Italian motorways are limited to 110 with rain.
