No. As a matter of fact, it costs you slightly more and there's a fairly complicated procedure to get it. That's what kept me from getting one.

Impressive.

Last night a man from Dominican Republic drove more than 80 km wrong way on A12, from Genova to La Spezia. He managed to overcome two road blocks, but not the third (police put two trucks across the carriageway). The man wasn't under the influence, but he was mentally ill and had a document from the hospital to prove it. His license was immediately suspended (how he got it in the first place is a mistery to me).

Maybe he got it before suffering from depression or other problems. In Italy driving licenses are renovated only every 10 years if you're less than 50 years old, so one may became even blind or tetraplegic and still have it. They should revoke driving license immediately when someone is being diagnosticated a disease incompatible with safe driving or, in case of some phisical handicaps, convert it to a special license that allow driving only special modified vehicles.

Beginning of works for TiBre (the extension of A15 northwards, from Parma to Trecasali) appears imminent. Soil probing already started:

Like the Monte Toc (rotten mountain in the local dialect). It's the mountain that partly collapsed inside the Vajont dam killing almost 2000 people.

Split mountain; it's an irregular verb.

A high-level meeting between the government, Autostrade per l'Italia, Region Emilia-Romagna, Province and City of Bologna, resulted in green light for the so-called "Passante nord", the new A14 stretch passing North of the actual stretch around Bologna. The project should be (more or less) this one:

39 km, 4 new junctions.

Maybe serving the cities around Bologna? Or maybe allow people going from Milan to Ancona to avoid Bologna's traffic...

It looks like a too long detour to replace the old A14. People will stick on the old route. It would be better to build a motorway between Casalecchio and San Lazzaro, creating a full ringroad around Bologna.

yes, also people from suburbs can't use this to reach the city. but it will come handy for A13-A14 direction.

The purpose is the same of Passante di Mestre. Maybe it's a tad too long but not that much.

Current a14 will be merged with current tangenziale.

Full ringroad is not an option, south part of Bologna is very hilly and would require long tunnels. Part of it is a natural park.

Of course it would be more effective for traffic to widen the existing A14 to say 4x3 lanes. But the cost of that project would be very high, a huge amount of overpasses and bridges would need to be replaced and some buildings would have to be demolished. It would be interesting to see a cost estimate of that and compare it to this northern bypass. I also feel the northern bypass is too far out (nearly twice the length) and will only be useful during summer weekends.
