True

Anyway I posted previously in the thread pics and infos about this 4 lanes stretch

The news in the list I posted about A1 MI-BO is they're going to start to build the 4th lane from Modena to Piacenza... the will is to have A1 with 4 lanes from Milano to Bologna

No way. Above pictures are only 3 weeks old. It looks like, it will be completed late next year.

wow. thats amazing.

it would be impossible in hungary b/c of nimbys...
what have you done with yours?

and what kind of settlement is this?

houses are far away from each other, so parcels are too large to be kitchen garden and backyard, but not large enough to be a field to supply a farmer family...

Well, it wasn't easy to do here either, but the situation on "Tangenziale di Mestre" was -and still today is- quite desperate. So they agreed to do something about that, but the construction is progressing quite slowly (more than 4 years for 32 km).

I don't know what kind of settelmts do you have in Hungary, but what can you see in those pics is normal here.

Will the Passante become A4 and will the actual Tangenziale take some other number? Or will the Tangenziale remain A4, which means the Passante will get another number? In that case, which one?

good question. it would be logical that passante gets A4 number, and existing tangenziale gets T or DIR number.

And with the growth of the European Union and the Schengen zone, the A4 in that area is of fast-growing importance as a cross-continent trade route - there are no other good east-west routes between the new southeast EU/Schengen countries and France, Spain, Italy, etc. Just check the Google aerial images of the 'free' part of the A4 in the Venice area - SHEESH!

I remember until a few years ago, every time I drove for Venice/Milan, license plates were almost entirely Italian. But now there's a huge amount of traffic from countries east of Italy (Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine etc.).

Because trucks don't drive to Lisbon, but mostly to Italy and a bit of S France and up to Madrid. Also I think, that truck tolls are cheaper, if going through southern countries

Actually EU Commission discussed a lot a while ago if corridor n°5 should have pass North or South of the Alps
Even thanks to Italy pressures they decided South (even because of the easier access to Mediterranean sea)

Anyway corridors are infrastructural axis (not only highways, even railways or roads...) on which EU should base a kind of transcontinental infrastructural skeleton
Theoretically they wanted to 'build' transcontinental axis makin' easier links between EU members
Pratically their developement is due to single members

Anyway one of the first effects of the decision to have a corridor 5 under the Alps was the approval of Torino-Lyon HSR link... unfortunately French (who are least interested than Italians on that) went on with the project, while in Italy we are late mainly for political reasons (previous govt. had factions which didn't want HSR to be built and slow down the project)
