Tolls in France are now mainly paid by people who drive long distances for for instance recreational purposes, only relatively few by commuters.

Exactly. I think that is good. Motorways outside metropolitan regions are owned by the State. All others where there is a toll on are owned privately.

Operation UK-F-ITALY-A-D-L-B-F-UK

Italy stretch, Mont Blanc - Turin - Piacenza - Brenner

Mont Blanc:

Turin. I had a delivery there:

Me getting increasingly tired. Been driving all day and all night, and I want to make it to Heilbronn today where I have to do a pick-up next day. No tacho's in vans...

Ok, got the missus with me, and she insists on having lunch in Piacenza. As if I'm not tired and want to keep going...

Brenner Autobahn/Autostrada del Brennero - A22

Uploading next: Austria stretch - Fernpass route.

Trying to figure out where were those pics taken in Turin. I guess Turin north, near Juventus Stadium?

I had to be in Grugliasco. Got off at the nearest Tangenziale exit, did the delivery and I then cut across to get on the motorway towards Piacenza. Hope this helps

Coming to think of it... I may have been on my way to the Iveco plant on the Milan side of town. It was at a time I was in Turin all the time at different places, and doing this round over and over again...

I wish they put some tolls on A3 as soon as project is completed, through a private concession, to keep the highway tidy, smooth and neat for years to come.

Public concessionaires of roads (like CAS) or ANAS don't have a good record of maintenance on their highways. CAS failure should be a presage of what would come to be if A3 stays in charge of A3 after works are completed.

Some politicians in Calabria, however, deem their region "too special and unique for tolls", usually bringing terrain-based or economic-based arguments. I don't buy it at all: while CAlabria is indeed hilly, there are alternate routes to A3 and these alternate routes are no more dangerous, busy and/or slow than alternate routes for many other tolled autostrade elsewhere in Italy.

I am agree with you.
Exactly, politicians in Calabria mean it for the first years (so not immediately) to "recover all the problems" since now.
