A video of the new section of A52:

It was opened in time for the Expo, but still with a temporary layout with narrow lanes, no hard shoulders and 60 km\h speed limit. The motorway will be open full profile in 2016.
Still, it was a very ambitious job to complete in just a year. The old 1+1 road was very congested for most of the day. Now it's closed to traffic and it will be turned into a cycle path.

I drove on quite a few new roads in the Milan area the last weeks. A new highway from Milan Linate in direction Bergamo and a new highway between Como and Malpensa. Very good development although the A4 North of Milan stays a major bottleneck.

The greater Milan area gets an infrastructure boost. This seems to be the first new major investment in roads since the 1970s.

* A35 BreBeMi
* A52 Tangenziale Nord
* A58 TEEM
* A59 Tangenziale di Como
* Pedemontana
* Tunnel in Monza

Bravo!

A first video of A59:

It is not yet possible to switch from A59 to A9 and there is no connection to SS35 (and will never be) ... strange. A59 is only connected to some minor roads in the neighborhood.

The idea was to build even a Southern bypass and make an outer ring with Pedemontana

When was it planned (1970th, 2000th)? Why was it rejected (or is it still "planned")?

I don't know about older plans, but currently some politicians are proposing something like this:

Still nothing official, though, just talks. It won't be realized in a long time. However, never say never. 30 years ago nobody would have imagined A35, A58, A59, A60 either.
However, the area south of Milan is mostly agricultural, unlikely the highly urbanized and industrialized area in the north, so it's construction will be less challenging than A36 Pedemontana.

Few years ago they planned a 13km link between the future A35 BreBeMi and A36 Pedemontana. For the moment is cancelled, but the society who planned it is still active, in case of a future realization.

Considering that A36 will be completed after 2020 (in around 2010, they said 2015), nothing will happen before then, and probably from few years later.

According to the newspaper Il Corriere della Sera, 10 days after its opening already 40k vehicles per day travel through A58 "Tangenziale Esterna Est" of Milan, more than initial previsions (25k in the first few months, 55k from September on).

Good.

That compensates for the low start of the BreBeMi (which should vastly improve now that TEEM is ready)

40,000 vehicles per day is pretty decent for a new toll road in the periphery, especially because there was no high-capacity corridor with that kind of traffic before near the new motorway. It will serve regional traffic and take traffic off A51. It would be interesting to compare the A51 and A58 traffic volumes over a longer period of time.

BreBeMi (A35) probably has more difficulty to compete with A4, especially because it is more expensive. But it also serves more cities that are not served by A4, so it's more than just an alternative route for A4.

If I got it right, it's also reported that BreBeMi (A35) is used by 20,000 vehicles but it was expected that it would already be used by 28,000. 40,000 from end of 2016.

What does "Un mezzo su quattro è un camion, un furgone o un tir" mean? Google translates it "A half out of four is a truck, a van or a truck". Half out of four? 50%, 25% or 12.5% truck share?

The correct translation should be "one vehicle out of 4 is a lorry (or truck), a van or a TIR" (TIR is an italian shot form of "International Transport" )

* Sorry for my bad english: for me it's more easy to translate from english to italian than the reverse!
