It's a shame they didn't go ahead and move the toll station from Lisert to Villesse. As it is now, it causes a lot of bottlenecks in the summer.

Since the A34 and new Villesse toll station is built, there is no need to build third lane between Villesse and Monfalcone. A lot of transit traffic goes via Villesse.

Few years ago they bulit additional 2 lanes at toll station TS lisert, since than there were some queues, but only few summer weekends per year.

Why moving TS lisert to the Villesse?

Maybe you can help me
I will land with my wife on 10 October after 23:00 at Trapani airport.
We will spend 2 nights in the area before we fly to Malta.

I was thinking to visit Palermo on 11 October. it's a Sunday.
I searched for bus connections, I found something, but I'm not sure if it runs from the airport or only from Marsala.

I found these plans, are they accurate? Is there something else?
http://www.airgest.it/images/loghi/bus/orari_salemi.pdf

Do you know how much a bus ticket would cost?
Another variant would be to rent a car for a day and drive to Palermo, also stop to see the temple at Segesta. Which car rental firm would you recommend?
Not so sure where I could park in Palermo safely, preferably parking garage.

When we return from Malta, before flying back to Germany, I plan to visit Erice and Egadi islands.

There are a couple parking lots near/around Palermo Centrale station. It is not difficult to reach there, just take a little patience.

One that I used couple time is here: https://goo.gl/maps/3Vm5c . It is not a big place, but conveniently placed.

There is also this private parking lot: https://goo.gl/maps/vCYyg
They even offer a service of pre-payment it appears: http://www.parkvia.com/it-IT/parcheg...lermo-centrale

Apparently the bus you found connects Marsala to Trapani airport then Palermo.

I guess I will be better off with a car.

Something I should bare in mind driving in Sicily?
As long as nobody damages or steals the car I'm not so worried...

Yes. Abandon all hope, alle ye who enter.

Remember that a green traffic light doesn't automatically mean that you are free to go. A yield sign does not mean yield. If you stop for pedestrian crossings, there's a chance you get bumped from behind.

It may seem cliché, but it was my experience when I drove there.

When I drove in Florence and Rome, I found them difficult, but not because of the driving style of cars, but because of those scooters all over the place coming from all directions. I also survived driving in Tirana, so I guess I would survive Palermo too, only that I won't have enough time to really adapt there while staying just one day. But maybe the fact that it will be a Sunday will help and so much crazy traffic .

But we plan to do a 9-10 days Sicily only trip next year in May
