Are there still parts of A3 to be opened until summer?
I plan again trip to south Italy and would like to see, what changes await me after 7 years.

how long do you not drive in A3? 7 years? So... you will find a nice surprise, a totally new highway excluded some sections in Calabria.

Hi keber, the tunnels in the photos will be opened for the next summer, but in only one of the carriageways...

you have not seen the entire video because at the minute 2:35 you can see the centre of Pompei.

Anyway, my channel is full of good video filmed in Naples (and province). These are a few (watch in HD!! ):

Castellammare di Stabia (NA) (the city where I live) and the famous city of Pompei (NA)

centre of Naples

famous city of Sorrento (NA)

Other video in my channel: http://www.youtube.com/naroads

You don't need to quote 3 videos to say that.

Pedemontana free flow toll

I used new Pedemontana A60 last week. Before entering the tolled section everybody left the motorway. Although this looked like a bad sign, I decided to give it a try.

Now I try to pay the toll and register at Pedemontana website. Its only in Italian. May be you can help me. "Targa" means number plate, right? If I enter my number it says: "Il formato della targa non è corretto" It seems to me, that they cannot deal with German numbers. Space or - is not accepted. What do you think?

I'd say, don't worry. At Pedemontana they're a bunch of incompetents, if they didn't manage to address such a simple task as collecting tolls, they deserve not to get paid.

I agree, you can act like you didn't know that the motorway was tolled. Pay only if you receive a letter at home, that is unlikely to happen (even traffic fines are rarely sent abroad from Italy). I'm surprised that the website hasn't an English version, though.

Pedemontana A60

Here the tolled section is announced:

Pedemontana1 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

Here I see a big problem for foreigners: you have to calculate the toll by yourself. So you have to know where you entered and where you exited. What do you think is the name of this exit?

Pedemontana2 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

Since there is only one exit the solution is easy in this case: Vedano Olona

Nobody can miss that this is a tolled road. Its announced multiple times:

Pedemontana3 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

Pedemontana4 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

But the motorway is completely empty. Notice the high mountains in the background.

Pedemontana5 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

In the map you see a big cloverleaf at the crossing of A60 and A8. So you might think, its a real motorway crossing, but it is not, A60 ends just before the cloverleaf:

Pedemontana6 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

At the entrance of A8, again a toll road is announced:

Pedemontana7 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

But I left A8 here:

Pedemontana8 by Wolfgang, auf Flickr

and there was no toll booth. This is the second problem for the foreigner:

Is this also freeflow toll or is this section really free?

A8 has no free flow. You pay only if you pass a toll barrier, otherwise is free. It's called "open toll system".

Ok, I thought so because A8 is much older.

I succeeded in creating an account at apl.pedemontana.com
With the number plate its necessary to omit all spaces. Then I could see that my car has been registered. Date, entrance, exit and class were given by the portal. I paid by credit card since there is no other reasonable option.

There is an English version of the website, but that has some bugs.

Also A36 and A59. All three are managed by Pedemontana company.

The opened branch is pretty useless IMO

Pedemontana could have a big increasing by A36 extension to East which allows to have a Northern bypass of jammed Milano area

Afaik the completion of the project is partly tied to the success of the first branch as Pedemontana Lombarda society is in need of money.
But it will be very hard if no one use it and pay the toll (and apparently even who uses it and hasn't got an Italian plate number can pay)

Anyway if you're going to earn money by free toll and on your website is hard to understand or impossible to pay, you're deserving a bit
