Bad accident yesterday on A4 between Monfalcone and Sistiana. As a result of a crash between two truck (one was a tank truck), 30,000 liters of gasoline have been spilled on the highway and on the surrounding environment. The three drivers survived with minor injures. The carriaggeway is now closed, with the other being used in both directions, and that section will require a new asphalt pavement.

It will serve the populated towns of Anzola, Bazzano and Crespellano but mostly the newly inaugurated Philip Morris factory.

Widening to 2x3 of A4 between Portogruaro and Gonars (26 km) has started yesterday. It should be completed by 2020 with a cost of 500 million €. It will includes a new 1+ km bridge across Tagliamento river.

Bad weather in northwest Italy (regions Liguria and Piedmont) has caused troubles all over the road and rail networks.
Some bridges in Turin over river Dora Riparia are closed; Po is about to overcome its banks and the sheer power of the water caused two boats to break moorings and crash into Victor Emmanuel I bridge:

Upstream, Po at Saluzzo caused a bridge on SS 589 to collapse, caught by a camera:

At Garessio, river Tanaro was so full of water that it overcame a road bridge.
Before:

and after:

Meteorologists say that in 4 days it rained the amount of water that usually comes down in 6 months.

I've read about 600 mm of rain in a 48 hour period. That's extreme, such amounts are usually associated with tropical cyclones.

Preparatory works were already well visible today, mostly tree cuttings.

A36 "Pedemontana lombarda" just got complete financial coverage. The motorway is intended as a bypass of the entire Milan metro area in the north-east direction. Up to now, ony 21 km have been built, from Cassano Magnago (A8) to Lentate sul Seveso (SS35). In the future, it will run almost all the way to Bergamo, connecting to A4 near Dalmine.

A59 and A60 (bypasses of Como and Varese) will also be completely built.

Does this mean that A60 will be built to the Swiss border?

Yes, to the "edge of nowhere" since the swiss are not interested in completing the road around Stabio to Mendrisio.
I hope that in the first step, the motorway will have only one carriageway, with the space to be doubled when needed, if needed.

I wonder whether existing SS712 will be upgraded to A60 or not.

Switzerland at least reorganized the connection to A2 at Mendrisio which was prone to queues in the past. There is now a direct lane from Stabio to A2 northbound. I wonder however what they will do in Stabio village.
