Yes. The southbound carriageway of the A7 from Serravalle to Genoa was built in the thirties.
It was originally a single carriageway with one lane for each direction.
In the sixties a new road, far less winding and curvy, was built (the present northbound carriageway) and our ancient stretch of road became the southbound carriageway.

Are there plans to build a second carriageway alongside to the newer one?

No. Not in the foreseeable future (as in not before 2050).

No, also because there is the A26 motorway that is a good alternative. In the 60-ies or 70-ies were planned a 3rd motorway but, apart an old map, I haven't any other information about that. I think it was abandoned

Provincial road network

Many times provincial roads are numbered following a totally unlogical pattern. A single numbered road may be made up by two different stretches or not be the most logical (shortest/fastest) route between its two termini. On the other hand, a logical route may change number every few kilometers.
So, these numbers are useful only for administrative purpose, not for navigation (most people don't know them anyway, even if they're signposted).

Driving from Carpacco to Rizzolo on an relatively straight route implies changing 4 different numbers. SP5 has not a logical route at all.

There's no reason to drive the entire lenght of SP7, it's not the fastest, nor the shortest route between its termini.

From Muzzana to Marano there are 4 different numbers in 8 km. Note that SP121 is mostly a gravel road (the part with dots) used only to access some farms, so it shouldn't be a provincial road.

In real life, electronic toll collection was first introduced in Bergen, Norway in 1986, and well into the 21th century many countries still struggle to implement it.

This one has been postponed to October 2017.
Any news on this? Is it done or any new deadline?

Way behind schedule. It's a generic 2018 now.

Oops, @MichiH, the new deadline is 2019, but I already mentioned it in thread about expected opening dates. It seems you have it as a double, one with deadline 2017, the other 2019.

They are not duplicates:

A52: rededication Novate Milanese – Paderno Dugnano-Bollate (SS35) ~4.5km (October 2017) – projectmap
A52: rededication Paderno Dugnano-Bollate (SS35) – Paderno Dugnano (SS35) ~1km (2019) – projectmap

Here's my source for splitting the section:

Works have been stopped for the entire lenght of EXPO 2015, to allow keeping open two lanes per direction.

I guess I should merge them again with deadline 2019?

The direct link between A4 and A35 near Brescia opens today.
http://www.ecodibergamo.it/stories/b...40_1261114_11/

In 2016 A4 had an AADT of 107,896, while A35 only 15,093.

They already reserved the land when they built A35.

They call that a 'homer'.

On the other hand, I don't think we would have otherwise seen much from Sicily. It's very remote, even for most Italian members I guess.

It seems that, on the first day of A35-A4 direct link, more than 10k vehicles passed through the toll booth (not counting the telepass transits). Considering that transits on the whole A35, before the direct link, were around 16k per day, it seems that the connection is working well...

A35 will surely increase traffic with the new connection, but it won't be competitive as a main East-West route.

Verona to Milan (centre) is 8 km shorter via A35:
https://www.google.it/maps/dir/Veron...45.4642035!3e0
https://www.google.it/maps/dir/Veron...45.4642035!3e0

But Verona - Novara is still 2 km shorter via A4:
https://www.google.it/maps/dir/Veron...2d45.44693!3e0
https://www.google.it/maps/dir/Veron...2d45.44693!3e0

And you have to consider that A4 is few euros cheaper.
