Absolutely true! But almost every road around the lake is beautiful!
Today with my bike I drove on the SS36 to Giussano, followed to Erba and then climbed till the "Madonna del Ghisallo" (for me one of the best panoramas you can find), then down to Bellagio and finally from Bellagio to Como and back to Milan (via ss35, Milano-Meda)! Wonderful tour!

I think, anyway, Lecco Colico deserves a better maintenance and even an update; althoug I think even the stretch of SS36 between Lecco and Giussano has to be upgraded (they're talkin they want to make the third lane since so many years...), over all superstrada entrances and exits
Totally agree with you!

Last two things: they're building a 4 km tunnel to bypass Monza (it is the most congested branch of SS36, as we are pratically in the 'core' of Milan conurbation) to have finally an efficient interchange with A4 and Tangenziale Nord

Today I've been there! Workers were "simply" placing new jerseys in order to eliminate left turns and it was enough to make the traffic a total mess!
It's going to be very hard for thew traffic in that zone, but ir's necessary! I hope works will progress as fast as possible!

What's happening with the reconstruction of A3 in south Italy? I'm going to Sicily in two weeks and wondering, what has happened in two years since my last visit of this region.

On 20.06 it was raining like from a bucket. This is A4 near Monfalcone. The electronic sign indicates that max speed limit is 110 km/h.

On A21 a Hungarian trucker just won't give up, they were driving 3 kilometers like this. Btw, a question for Hungarians: how many trucks has this Wabere's company? I see them all around, even in Latvia.

On 25.06 this electronic sign on A4 indicated that vehicles over 7,5 t cannot drive in Slovenia because there was a celebration. They could only drive after 9:00 PM. Italians are good warners, this sign is near Brescia and even before Bergamo (that's more than 200 km until Slovenia) signs showed the same.

This electronic sign is after A4/23 junction.

The police loves to patrol here at Monfalcone pay toll on A4.

Btw, I noticed that only in Italy and Latvia they use signs like this:
Italy

Latvia

A4 Mestre bypass

Junction with the new bypass and old A4 through Mestre.

The whole bypass is 6 laned.

Distance sign.

Approaching A4/A27 junction.

Preganziol is the only exit that is open now, other two are still under construction.

RV from Austria in front.

Mestre bypass has a lot of this type of tunnels.

Electronic sign is turned off.

Another tunnel.

Construction works at exit.

Tunnel.

Distance sign.

Mestre bypass junction with the old A4 through Mestre.

Old 6 laned A4.

Interesting pics, thanks! I'm guessing your truck is under 7.5 t? How old is that type of distance signs with "inizio"? I've seen them before, but not many.

Probably not, as he was angry with prohibited overtaking for trucks over 7,5 t in SK.

Inizio means the beginning (of the motorway)?

Are distance signs getting more common in Italy?
From what I remember driving there there are few real distance signs.
The next big city is often signed in the middle on the small signs.
But real distance signs with multiple cities on the right side I've seen few.
Sometimes far away cities like Lyon between Milan and Turin or Paris and Marseille between Genoa and the french border, but those cities are only signed once.

Yes. One of the tunnels with a sharp curve on very old A1 Bologna-Firenze:

Another picture from a viaduct on the same motorway:

Those light look fancy, however motorway there is horrible.

Big distance signs, common thing around the world, are pretty much a rarity in Italy, I think that most of them are on A4.

'Inizio' means beginning, it's an integrative sign and it is normally used under prescription and prohibition signage obviously followed after a while by the integrative signs 'continua' (occasionally), wich means that the prescription persists, and by 'fine' wich means it ends

Anyway this integrative signage is now outdated as today we use 'arrows'

INIZIO

CONTINUA

FINE

Anyway the sign 'INIZIO' at the origin of a motorway indicates all the general prescriptions of the motorway begin from there

I think this is the only stretch isn't good, the other ones are ok: anyway in next future there will be the so called 'Variante di Valico'

I hope they are going to update it: anyway it will remain opened to traffic (for that the name of the new stretch is 'variante') and you could chose what way run on (probably old one won't be allowed to trukcs and possibly signage will be in a way to facilitate the choose: for istance 'sending' long-distance traffic on the new 'variante' and the local one on the old branch)
