Actually i'll nip in to the planning office at the town hall tomorrow and ask when they think this will start, and see if i can get a few things photocopied.

The 201m is the old design, the latest design looks like 2 council blocks on a 10 storey podium that are a similar height to the CIS.

Liking the latest rendoid earlier in the thread, very nice.

I thought it was 57 from Ducie Street and 58 from Store Street.

And holy shite that render is bloody stunning. Wow.

calm down dear...its a commercial...

I was reffering to the post which you can locate on the New JRB thread ( cant be arsed typing it) top 2nd page...It mellows towards the end

Quote:
I think you're reading too much into this guys... you're mistakenly thinking that the Civic Society thinks like a skyscraper fan... they may not even have thought about what a 'tall building' is, they're a civic society, so to them tall could mean 15 stories. And when they talk about Manchester, they may mean the whole of Greater Manchester, they may just mean the city centre. I imagine that they're consultees on all large applications, but they probably won't get to comment on schemes much before they're submitted for planning. It's not like this is an architect or a consultant, who often talk about 'the pipeline'. The society are probably just referring to schemes already or about ot be submitted for planning.

The article is also slightly misguided as Manchester already has a UDP that will undoubtedly (assuming it was prepared right) have a policy on tall buildings. In fact I've seen Manchester's policy for locating tall buildings being discussed for several years now, so I was under the impression there'd been plenty of talk about it.

But, of course, I think it's obvious there are a good number of towers in the pipeline for Manchester... the director at Drivers Jonas (agents for Beetham Tower) said they were working on 10 towers earlier in the year, so the fact that there are more on the way isn't really news... is it?

maybe all those little industrial units will be knocked down to make way for new developments like eastgate, it has the potential to become a great quarter of the city.

I can see a 200m tower being built behind Rail House on the bottom right here.

it'd be awesome for people living in New islington, city centre on their door step. It would also extend the city out to sport city a bit more. I think if the council wanted to do this they'd have to get rid of that retail park, dunno what it's called, on the end of store street.
