You got me thinking about it, so I had a look around, and look what I found: A rather moody pic of Warschauer Strasse station by our very own Aiden O'Rourke!!

Look here

I have spotted activity on the eastgate site!

Birds have flown away from the site along with squirrels and other rodents packing their bags, signalling a sign of things to come!

So this tower is definitely going to be built then!

With Beetham and now this Manchester will have 2 600 foot towers or thereabouts.

Is it likely the the Crown Building... around 400 feet will be built as well? How about the tiered 'quads' in Salford.

I imagine if Manchester has all these built plus Canopus and 1 Hardman Square it will possibly have one of the best skylines in Europe!

I would wager that Norman Foster, having graduated from Manchester University in architecture before shinning off to Yale would rather like to finish his career with a rather stunning tower in his home city. What do you guys think?

With New York replacing The Twin Towers with a 1700 foot tower and several buildings topping 1000ft in London it's time for Manchester to plan a 1000ft tower somewhere too.

The Crown Building has a good as chance as any. The developers intend to clear the site towards the end of this year and begin early 2006.

The 'quads' in Salford are a possibility but not much info is out about them, they could just be one of a number of potential final designs.

Canopus won't be built witht that design.

No no no no.. NO! Manchester nor any other city (ok too late for London, its already planning to) as yet need 1000 footers, I mean why?! We need to build up to these things, Frankly if Eastgate was the tallest we get now for another 10 years then it suits me, We need to build some 100m towers to fill up the barrier between the street level lowrises and tall towers.. Manc has loads of 50,60m towers done and planned, which will be great, we just need more 80-140m towers now to give some step up and boost the cluster, then.. and only then, should we be aiming for 1000 footers (and even then, I'm still unsure.. I'd say we just need some 800s meself)

A 1000fter at this point would completely ruin the Manchester skyline. Look how ridiculous Tapei 101 looks on the Tapei skyline, despite the other buildings still being very tall.

Thats what I thought, yet I couldnt type Tapei, was typing Taipei or Tiapai and allsorts of shit, so to save embarrassment I didn't bother, lol..

But I totally agree, look at Tapei pics and its like, tall building and low-rises.. yet they're not.. but the illusion is all too real...

I dont see a problem. If the council were that happy to approve a 1000fter, they'd be the same type of people to approve many many more 100mish stuff. It would give birth to a messy explosion of glass and concrete. So there.

I'd rather we make the city great all over before we start pulling our kecks down and asking people to admire our balls.
