Complete rubbish. You say the economy is on a downturn, despite the fact that the budget deficit has just dropped to a three-year low thanks to a surge in consumer spending!

Haha. When I saw that you'd just posted on this thread bob, I absolutely knew that your post would say ''this won't go ahead''

Well thankfully you appear to know bugger all about economics! Developers might not sell shoebox size flats in red brick garbage as easily as they did 3 years ago, but there will always be massive demand for high class developments in good locations, like Eastgate. This will be built, and will be a success. End of.

The site of the main tower yesterday.

..and also I don't mind Manchester getting a few towering rectangular skyscrapers to start with. After we have a cluster then we can get on with the fancy designs. The rends make them look very futuristic anyhow. Less concrete more glass.

P.S. this pissing site's slow tonight!!!!

It's too bad that Eastgate won't have a public observation area for us... I really hope we can get a proper high public observation area with a restaurant to show off our city to visitors.

Well the fantastic sloped version was dropped (apparently) due to it's microclimate effects, the slope caused some weird wind patterns.

It was redesigned into this:

But this has been redesigned again and will be at least 40 floors, possibly as high as 45. Due to be submitted before the end of this year, could start next year.

The first phase of Hardman Square, buildings 3 & 4, are already underway. 3 Hardman is 46m to roof and has 9 floors. That's 5.1m per floor, very high spec. Now, if 1 Hardman is 5.1m per floor and 45 floors.......

Bloody hell, that would make it 229.5m tall! That's huge!
At that height I hope Foster comes up with something awesome.

Probably won't be that high though. 180m-200m I'd say.

I'm not too keen on this one chaps. Come on Manchester - you have given us better before - make this one better!

I guess it will look better in the flesh though - when's it start?
