The little warehouse to the right of the main Tanners Yard building is quite cool as well even though it's actually not as good architecturally as Tanners Yard, therefore I'd probably concede it as part of an architecturally sensitive new build. |

I went to the Chambers Wharf exhibition this afternoon. Not a huge amount to see - just a PR guy there on behalf of St Martins and a dozen or so CGI pics, the most interesting ones of which Smoggie Si has kindly posted. Some crazy old people moaning about the height of the proposals (que? it's 14 storeys tops).
A third of the housing will be "affordable" - that'll all be on Chambers St. The PR guy say St Martin's have been talking to the council for nearly a year and a half, so (given that CABE's already given the thumbs up) he thinks planning permission should not be a massive problem - some minor changes needed perhaps. Lots of demolition etc to do once it's got the green light - construction proper would start 2010ish. Bring it on.

According to this http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/2766 there's a new apart-hotel on the way for Bermondsey St - this site:
. The SE1 forum thread on this suggests the developer is http://www.sunlightresidential.com/.

What's the barrel-roofed building in El Greco's first post? I thought at first it must be the new London Bridge Station, then I remembered that you are at the other end of Bermondsey Street.

It's part of the proposed development at Convoys Wharf, Deptford. I don't think we know too much detail, but the scheme includes "major new cultural and creative facilities" so my guess is it's a theatre or other arts space of some sort. Or could just be a mall.
Local authority page on the proposals: http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/Environme...nvoysWharf.htm Richard Rogers (RRP) text (cached by Google): http://tinyurl.com/ytfjuc

Had an email from the guy doing PR for Chambers Wharf, hinting that some positive comments to the council might balance the NIMBYs who presumably are normally the only people who bother to comment on proposals. He wrote:
All you need to do is send an email to: planning.applications@southwark.gov.uk and title it: Comments on application 07-AP-1262 Just thought I'd post those details here in case anyone feels like writing to the council about this, whatever your views. I'll probably send a supportive email. [Edit: OK, I have just sent a supportive email!]

Slightly to the west of Bermondsey really, but probably fits ok in this thread: myBASE1. http://www.mybase1.co.uk/. Sold-out residential development, currently under construction, due to completed in spring 08. Looks like 8 storeys max.
![]() ![]() ![]() Not really a thing of great beauty, is it.

I really think we should ask mods to rename this thread to South-East London Projects.
- 1-3 Trinity Street.Southwark : A mixed use scheme providing retail, commercial and residential accommodation adjacent to the Trinity Square conservation area. All residential accommodation will be to the highest standard with an outstanding penthouse and beautifully proportioned three storey, contemporary town house. Currently in planning. Construction planned to commence Oct 07. ![]() ![]() ![]() High Street Deptford : Right at the heart of regeneration in Deptford, opposite the new Lord Rogers Station proposal, this urban mix of residential and live-work brings large, flexible units and a new restaurant to downtown Deptford. ![]() Donway Building.New Cross : On the back of success at The Glasshouse, Donway forms the second phase of development on this exciting node of regeneration. Linked into the business hub of The Stones Building and with it’s own communal business support facilities, this scheme provides commercial space alongside 45,000sqft. of Residential accommodation. ![]() ![]() ![]() Luxmore Gardens.New Cross : An innovative residential development facing a secluded community park. The design moulds to the site contours and embraces the existing mature trees to provide a truly unique and modern solution. Just 13 units will be available in what will be a truly unique development. ![]() ![]() ![]() Princess Louise Hall.Deptford. An exciting design led development including 23 residential apartments and a commercial space, located just off Deptford High Street. Behind a striking four-storey facade, apartments have a winter garden enclosed by a openable glass louver system, designed to maximise thermal performance. ![]() ![]()

Oh yes! good idea!
Good job El Greco! Those projects are original and quite interesting in their context. I dont know if it fits well under the SE London banner, but there are also many projects (proposed or uc) in Southwark outside the E&C, like the Zaha Hadid School. |
