The Stage is not the most frequently quoted news source on this site, but it has this article on a possible development in Bermondsey St.

I’d sooner the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum there, but I'm sure they'd find a Buildign anyway.

Lewisham College looks pretty cool to my mind. Will certainly add a touch of class to the otherwise drab area around Lewisham/ Lee.

Thanks for the pics...had no idea what it looked like until now!

Using the example below, If Southwark and Tower Hamlets come up with half the cash (£15 million each say) for the Rotherhithe - Canary Wharf bridge, surely TfL can fund the rest? Its sad, but this appears to be the only way Boris will fund anything.

Good scheme at Highbury Corner btw. Padestrianising the west side of the roundabout and linking with the area outside Highbury & Islington Station.

Islington offers TfL £5m to lose Highbury gyratory
Filed 12/02/09

Islington Council in north London has offered Transport for London £5m to help pay for improvements to the area outside Highbury and Islington station.

The local authority says it is willing to put up half the cost of the Highbury Corner regeneration scheme, which would replace the existing road gyratory system with a conventional road junction, freeing up space to relieve overcrowding at the station. Council chief executive John Foster has written to TfL commissioner Peter Hendy to formally offer the money, which would require TfL to match the funding.

Highbury and Islington station is expected to see an increase in passenger numbers following its connection to phase one of the new East London Line extension in 2011. The local authority hopes works to relocate the post office and improve the public space in front of the station could begin in 2011/12 and says the cost would be between £6m and £11m.

Cllr James Kempton, leader of Islington Council, said: "By managing our money carefully, we've been able to put aside funding for this large-scale project. I believe residents would much rather see this cash invested in the borough - in a scheme that will create jobs and apprenticeships - rather than sitting in the bank earning paltry sums of interest.

"Highbury Corner is routinely described as 'one of the worst places in the borough'. We want to change that and provide a legacy for future generations."

More on Boris blocking the pedestrian/cycling bridge in this South London Today piece.

And Southwark News covers the ELL go-ahead (without the new station, so far).

The Grove in Eltham... initially refused planning permission, has been accepted on appeal:

To replace this... as it currently stands:

Hmmm, nice! Often drive past this bit of Eltham, so nice to see there are plans to remove that hideous 60's development.

On a totally seperate note, fingers crossed that Lewisham Council will get their act together and sort out Catford town centre (in particular the shopping centre and Milford Towers which I hate with a passion).

Went for a little cycle ride in the sun this morning.

Toronto House and the piling for Montreal House at Maple Quays:

St James's Square and Eyot Heights coming along nicely at Bermondsey Spa:

Not sure about this green colour:

Bolanachi Building, also at Bermondsey Spa:

Salmon Youth Centre, Old Jamaica Road:

I'm curious to see what emerges from this little site on Decima Rd:

Finally, Hankey Place (Manciple St) has emerged, and I think it's a pretty little development:

Of course I stopped by Chambers Wharf as well...

From an FT article on encouraging signs in the residential sector...

Signs of turnround in fragile housing market
By David Fickling
Published: February 24 2009 22:26 | Last updated: February 24 2009 22:26

When Maggie Anderson started marketing a block of 42 flats in London’s Canada Water last October, she expected a tough job.

Being one Underground stop from Canary Wharf no longer looked such a plus in the weeks after one of the Wharf’s biggest employers, Lehman Brothers, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Mortgage lending was seizing up and a housing market that had already endured a sharp correction last spring went into freefall. But against the odds, potential buyers are reserving roughly two flats in the Maple Quays development every week and two-thirds of those reservations have exchanged contracts.

“Two a week is what you’d expect to do in a good market,” says Ms Anderson. “We just did not believe in this market we’d be able to get these sorts of sales.”

The white sheet has come down on this great little residential development, on Bear Lane and Great Suffolk Street in Southwark.

Not too sure about this side though.

GazKinz - Is anything happening along Suffolk St on this Conran & Partners scheme that also got PP last year?

Interestingly both this & the A&M student schemes original ideas was for taller buildings, 18fl for the A&M one & 26fl corner tower for this one but Southwark deemed the area not suitable for taller buildings.

I don't think so London Lad, but I'll have a look next time I'm in the area.

Yes it looks pretty good, I'm glad they're begining to fill some of the old bombs sites in, there are quite a few in the Southwark backstreets.
