^ Seems like you're a major Paris enthusiast since you spend so much time in this (and the RER) thread. It must have left a big impression!

There are many things I love about Paris:

*History
*Culture
*Architectural design of various buildings (especially the Art Nouveau style)
*Art
*Landmarks
*Public Transit

When I first heard about the Paris Metro from my dad, when he went to Paris with his wife, I first found it hard to believe that some of the trains were rubber-tyred. But when I saw the system for myself, I basically "fell in love" with it. :P

In fact, the fantasy subway system that I am building in my spare time is largely based on the Paris Metro and uses rolling stock that are based off the MA 51, MP 73, MF 77, MP 89, MF 01, and MP 05.

The lines I rode on when I was in Paris in 2009 include:

between CDG-E & Chatelet
between CDG-E & Barbes
between St. Michel & Gare du Nord
between CDG-E & Bercy
between Invalides & Place de Clichy

Plus segments of the RER C & D.

I would definitely love to see in its automated state, along with . I never had the chance to ride .

Of course, with the MP 89CC & when the MF 01 begin to roll out on that line.

The thing that attracts me to Paris the most are the Haussmann-styled buildings, I really like those.
Things I really like about the Paris metro are Guimard entrances, the disused stations (and the ones that never saw service) which is why I have www.sleepycity.net in my bookmarks and also the sound the MP89 makes when it leaves the station.

That's what makes the MP 89 my all time favorite subway train. That and its sleek, modern design

Just for kicks....my top 5 favorite subway trains.

1: MP 89CC/CA - Paris
2: MP 05 - Paris
3: R-160A - New York
4: MF 01 - Paris
5: R-142 - New York

Neat photos, as always.

I traveled through St. Michel 4 times when I was in Paris....up and down the curved staircase.

I don't know if this is a right topic to post this question, but do you know if RATP or SNCF plans to organize sort of "metro (or RER or whatever ) open days". I mean any kind of possibility to visit atelier or to ride Sprague-Thompson or to visit abandoned stations.
To conclude, is there any party connected with public transport planned this year? If yes, when?

Usually, it is the organization ADEMAS that organizes such events. They have done so many times in the past (I think the last time they did a Sprague run was in 2010), but I heard from a few sites here and there that the Sprague cannot run on the system anymore, not even for heritage days. I could be wrong though.

There are some visit but I don't know where is the next one. Also these visit are often full, you need to reserve a place early.
Usually in the Heritage days in September, the RATP (with ADEMAS) is quite active.

But Heritage days still does happen?

I'd love to see a video with a Sprague and an MP 89CC side by side on Line 4.

Heritage days is not only limited to the RATP, a lot of monuments, companies open their doors in the whole country.
Even if the Sprague don't run, there is still many other visits in the metro network.

Thanks for your replies. I'm a little bit disappointed, because I thought that I will be able to participate in such event during my stay in Paris this summer.
I've got also a question concerning Paris museum of urban transport owned by Amtuir organisation. Why has it been closed for last 15 years. I saw on their website that they have unbelievably huge collection of old buses, trams, even metro cars. Unfortunately I don't know French, so I could not understand the webpage which says about the reasons for which they closed the museum.
Do you know why is it closed. What problems do they have and when is it expected to reopen?

Update.

According to Symbioz, MP 89CC #51 is next to move to . She should be in service by Saturday.

On , MF 01 #s 73, 74, & 75 are currently in test. They should be in service later this month.
There is also word that #49 may be put into service on soon, as it was previously undergoing tests at Porte de Charenton ()

So by the end of May, we may see something like this:

: 23-25 MP 89CC in service, with roughly 26-27 MP 59 remaining.
: 28-30 MF 01 in service, with roughly 26-28 MF 67 remaining.

With this said, going into June, cascading of stock will be right at the halfway point!
