Delivery of the MF01 for the line 5 is complete.
The last train is in Bobigny yard. It is the famous ghost MF01, the number 046.
If you don't remember the last MF01 of the line 2 was the number 045 and the first of the line 5 was the number 047.

A picture of Bobigny yard, you will not see the 046 in this picture, I used this picture just to illustrate the new.
Could you tell me where this depot is situated? Did you take the picture out of a metro train or a RER one?

Would anyone know why it was built as an outdoor depot instead of some sort of indoor facility? I'm guessing cost had something to do with it.

Not sure if I mentioned this, but is it not possible to modify the tracks? I heard that some portions of track on Line 4 had to be realigned to prevent this very same thing from happening there.

If this is definitely not possible, then I can only see the MP 89 being retired early.

The "atelier-maillot" collection is real interesting, as it must have been taken recently.

So only half of the old station is utilized for the MP 05 maintenance (first level).

Okay, so there's been quite a bit of talk on Symbioz about some maintenance/rehab work on Line 6 between Pasteur and Passy stations (viaduct section). Some have raised the possibility that this work is connected to prepping the line for the MP 89, but there is insufficient evidence that this is such.

Regardless of what rolling stock eventually is used on Line 6, I would assume that some sections of track will have to be realigned to accommodate the new stock, just like Line 4 was for the MP 89.

In my opinion and knowing the RATP, I don't think that it is done for preparing the line 6 to the MP89.
The work I have seen so far on Bir Hakeim Bridge is repainting.

You're probably right on that account.

I really think that Line 6 is not an option for the MP 89. Even if the STIF were considering it at one time, they also expressed that a rolling stock would have special tires to better grip to the tracks during snow, etc. I think that the MP NG (MP 14) will be better suited for this.

I also hear from time to time something about the condition of the gangways (specifically the rubber type ones).

With that said, I strongly believe that either the MP 89 will be modified in some form for automation of Line 4 (even if it is simply installing an autopilot system), or be scrapped early.

is there a date for the start of automation on line 4?

IF the process starts from now and with the use of the new MP NG rolling stock, it will end in 2020... and so someone could say" it's a 30 years old rolling stock"...

There is no set date for the start of automation, though it seems some preliminary prep could start within a few months.

I think the major work (platform work, signaling, etc) will be done to coincide with the Bagneux extension, which is set to begin in 2014.

And the MP 89 is not even close to 30 years old yet. They went into service in 1997. Many transit agencies world wide utilize a convention by which subway rolling stock is named based on the year of design, not year of first use.

I heard 2017 for the automation of line 4.
